Pinball FX2 – Super League

Pinball FX2 – Super League

Zen Studios have been on a roll with great pinball table and Super League is no exception. Even if you are not a fan of football you’ll appreciate the flow of the table and the multitude of scoring opportunities. The football theme has been expertly interwoven with the gameplay in a way that not only makes sense but is very addictive as well.

Gameplay: A great table with nice ramps and an abundance of multi-ball opportunities.

Graphics: The different designs for each football club looks excellent.

Sound: Catchy music and nice sound effects recreate the atmosphere of a real football match

Pinball FX2 – Star Wars™ Pinball: Heroes Within Pack

Pinball FX2 – Star Wars™ Pinball: Heroes Within Pack

These are not the first Star Wars themed tables by Zen Studios, but they are certainly some of the best. This time you get four tables instead of the usual three and each one of these offers hours of gameplay. With so much variety and great table themes in the set, it is hard to pick a favorite and I found myself bouncing back and forth between tables all the time. If you are a fan of pinball and love Star Wars then this is an essential purchase.

Gameplay: Four Star Wars themed tables with great layouts.

Graphics: Another excellent use of the license.

Sound: Some of the speech snippets sound a bit “off,” but overall it is a great effort

Pinball FX2 – Plants vs. Zombies™ Table

Pinball FX2 – Plants vs. Zombies™ Table

It might have taken a while to reach PC, but this table is still every bit as good as it was upon first release. Zen Studios did a great job with the license and created a table that fans of the Plans vs Zombies franchise will love to play. It is simple to understand the goals, but feels a bit more challenging than the original console release.

Gameplay: A nice table that cleverly incorporates elements of the original license into the gameplay.

Graphics: Excellent use of the Plants vs Zombies license.

Sound: Familiar tunes and effects will make Plants vs Zombies players feel right at home

FlameFrost Legacy By Epic Dragon

FlameFrost Legacy By Epic Dragon

In recent years we’ve seen indie developers take on some pretty ambitious projects, and pull it off, but Epic Dragon takes things to a whole new level. This indie outfit composes of only a programmer and artist, but these two guys plan on creating an MMORPG. We are not talking pixel art or retro art visuals either, but full-blown 3D and tons of detail. Even more amazing, they plan for the whole thing to run inside a modern browser without the need for any plug-ins to be installed first and for players to get in the game within seconds

Battle Fantasia -Revised Edition-

Battle Fantasia -Revised Edition-

The varied roster of interesting characters alone makes it hard to dislike Battle Fantasia –Revised Edition- and the newcomer friendly gameplay is also a plus. It doesn’t quite have the depth demanded by veterans and the pace is also considerably slower than other titles by Arc System Works, but it still has plenty to offer. It is a very accessible beat ‘em up and offers a great way for newcomers to dip their toes in the genre.

Gameplay: The character roster is small, but the game is accessible enough for newcomers to jump in and have fun.

Graphics: Although improved the visuals still show their age compared to more modern fighting games.

Sound: The over the top Japanese voice acting fits the game perfectly and the background tunes are quite good too

Poncho (Delve Interactive)

Poncho (Delve Interactive)

Just like any 2D platform game with a shadow motif will probably be compared to Limbo for the foreseeable future, PONCHO is inevitable going to draw comparisons to Fez. From the title and vibrant pixel art visuals to the chiptune soundtrack and world shifting gameplay mechanics there are plenty of similarities. However, we spent some time playing this parallax platformer and it definitely has a unique identity of its own

Quern – Undying Thoughts by Zadbox Entertainment

Quern – Undying Thoughts by Zadbox Entertainment

The point & click adventure genre has seen a resurgence in recent years thanks to indie developers, but we haven’t seen many classic Myst-style puzzle adventures. This is about to change thanks to Zadbox Entertainment and their first major title, Quern – Undying Thoughts. Influenced by the works of Jules Verne and inspired by the visual style of the Myst series, Quern is a first person puzzle adventure where players get to explore a mysterious island

Purrfectly Ever After by Weeev

Otome fans will already be familiar with the big names like Otomate, Voltage and Reject. Newcomers Weeev might be a small group, but their goal is to offer experiences comparable to what players expect from these big developers. That is why Weeev turned to Kickstarter for their debut title, Purrfectly Ever After. In case the name didn’t give it away already, it is a feline themed visual novel starring cute characters and a romantic story
