Firegirl Announced During Guerrilla Collective

One of the announcements during Guerrilla Collective is an action rescue platformer titled Firegirl by Thunderful Publishing and Dejima Games. The game allows players to take on the role of a young fire rescue officer who is on a quest to breathe new life into her rundown local fire station. She has to respond to emergency calls from all over the procedurally generated city where the game is set. Fortunately, Firegirl is ready for action with a trust ax and a high-pressure fire hose that doubles as a jetpack.

Players only have three minutes to save all the civilians caught in a blaze, and the timer starts as soon as Firegirl arrives on the scene. However, the rescue time can be extended with feats of bravery and other gameplay features, which players can leverage to their advantage. Along the way, players will also uncover the truth of why these fires are suddenly engulfing the city.

Gameplay in Firegirl will consist of dousing roaring flames, chopping through obstacles, and extinguishing the pyro-monsters that roam about. Players can find all sorts of extra goodies in high places, so the jetpack capabilities of the fire hose will come in very handy. Between missions, Firegirl can hang out at the Firehouse where she can upgrade her equipment, hire new staff and pay any bills that have been accrued.

The game promises to offer a fusion of retro and modern sensibilities, which can be seen with the mixing of pixel art with 3D visuals and next-gen rendering techniques. The result is a game with a wholly unique look and feel.

Dejima founder, Julien Ribassin, stated that the goal was to capture the sense of imminent danger that comes from facing a natural disaster like fire and then translate it into a whimsical arcade adventure. He also added that the game was designed with both newcomers and veterans to the genre of action platformers in mind. Thunderful’s Head of Publishing, Dieter Schoeller, praised Firegirl for taking the seemingly simple concept of fighting fires and making it utterly captivating. He describes the game as a perfect pick up and play title, which offers a zippy arcade twist on rescuing people from an environmental disaster.

Check out the reveal trailer for Firegirl below and clear some space on your gaming schedule this Fall when the game comes to Steam, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Playstation 4, and Playstation 5.
