Platformers are one of the most enduring genres out there and there is always room for one more if it is done well. Last Soul, an upcoming 2D pixel-art platformer by Wulum is already shaping up to be something special. While the planned release date is set for Spring 2022, there is a free prologue available on Steam featuring two levels. The first level serves as a tutorial where players are introduced to some of the skills available to the robotic protagonist, Bop. After that, players are thrown into a tense boss fight where they get to put these skills to the test.

Last Soul is set in a future where mankind has lost its will and it is up to Bop to save the day. The developers are promising four distinct regions in the full game, witch each consisting of a variety of levels. Players will also be able to evolve their character through three stages of progression and unlock new and more powerful weapons and abilities along the way. With powers such as bullet time, jet pack, and shields, Bop is not your typical run-of-the-mill platform hero either. However, players will have to really master these abilities if they hope to stand a chance against the deadly enemies and fearsome bosses in the game.

Our time with the prologue certainly confirmed the fact that Last Soul is an action-packed game. Even during the tutorial enemies show no hesitation when it comes to showering Bop with bullets and they don’t go down without a fight either. The visual style of the game also stands out with very detailed pixel-art, memorable character designs, and vivid colors. Check out our First Look Video for Last Soul to see the game in action or, better yet, head over to Steam and download the free prologue. From Donkey Kong and Dig Dug to Gauntlet and Gradius, the 1980s were a golden era for classic video-game franchises. One of these franchises is Lode Runner, which was first released for the Apple II in 1983 and quickly moved on to other platforms. Its action-packed, yet puzzle-oriented gameplay made it an instant hit and even people like Alexey Pajitnov counted it amongst their favorite puzzle titles. Although there hasn’t been a shortage of new releases over the years, the last appearance of Lode Runner was back in 2012 on Android and iOS. Thankfully, this is about to change with the upcoming release of Lode Runner Legacy for PC.

Not content with finally bringing Princess Maker 2 Refine to English speaking audiences, CFK, is also bringing a high definition remake of the original Wonder Boy to Steam. The first game in the series was released back in 1986 and made quite an impression in the arcades thanks to its fast paced side scrolling action. The success of the game also resulted in numerous ports and spin-off titles across various formats.

FlameFrost Legacy By Epic Dragon

In recent years we’ve seen indie developers take on some pretty ambitious projects, and pull it off, but Epic Dragon takes things to a whole new level. This indie outfit composes of only a programmer and artist, but these two guys plan on creating an MMORPG. We are not talking pixel art or retro art visuals either, but full-blown 3D and tons of detail. Even more amazing, they plan for the whole thing to run inside a modern browser without the need for any plug-ins to be installed first and for players to get in the game within seconds.
