Zanki Zero: Last Beginning Unveils New Gameplay Trailer

Spike Chunsoft has recently unveiled the latest gameplay trailer for their upcoming survival RPG, Zanki Zero: Last Beginning, and it is looking pretty interesting to say the least. For those unfamiliar with the title, it is a new type of survival game from the creators of the Danganronpa series, Yoshinori Terasawa and Takayuki Sugawara. The game is set in a post-apocalyptic world where you take control of eight protagonists who are not just fighting for their own survival, but also trying to figure out the meaning of their never-ending cycles of life and death.

Zanki Zero will require players to scavenge for food and materials, while also fighting monsters in real-time battle environments. Your characters only have a life cycle of 13 days and their age also influences factors such as their stats, abilities, and capabilities. However, you can earn bonus upgrades for your next life cycle, depending on how the character dies.

The new trailer highlights the real-time battles in the game where players can use combined charge attacks on enemies as well as target and break off enemy parts. Enemies can be looted for materials and food, while some creatures may also drop something called “clione.” Clione can grant powerful skills to characters, which can be used to heal party members, destroy walls in dungeons, and deal tons of damage to enemies. You do have to be careful with your powers, though, or else you might just wipe out your entire party in the process.

Your base of operations in Zanki Zero will be a place called Garage Island, which is where you can hoard your materials, craft tools and equipment, harvest items from your garden, and bunk characters together to strengthen their bonds. The game will take its survival aspects quite seriously as your characters must eat, sleep, and even use the toilet. You will also need to manage their stress levels and the age of characters will even affect the story scenes. The trailer also reveals some more information about the cloning aspects of the game and highlights a few of the ruins that you will get to explore as well as the monsters you’ll face there.

Zanki Zero: Last Beginning will launch on April 2019, for PS4 as well as Steam. Players can pre-order the game on PS4 to get the exclusive Zanki Zero: Last Beginning survival soundtrack, which is also available on Steam as an early purchase bonus.
