TurnOn

TurnOn

TurnOn is a unique platform game in which players must guide a tiny alien spark along electric wires to help restore power to a city experiencing a blackout. The game is very casual and relaxing for the most part, but some unexpected runner-style sections can cause frustration. It is also a very short game, but the healthy dose of achievements helps with the replay value.

Gameplay: The game is casual and relaxing until the runner sections make an appearance.

Graphics: TurnOn features 3D visuals that are viewed from a primarily 2D perspective.

Sound: The jazzy soundtrack is a highlight

Far Away Promises To Redefine Visual Novels

Far Away Promises To Redefine Visual Novels

There has never been a better time to be a fan of visual novels as there is a wealth of titles to choose from. Fans have also been spoiled for choice when it came to the number of classic titles finally receiving English translations along with brand new titles hitting the market. As great as this is, it also makes it hard to keep track of what is worth playing. One upcoming title that certainly looks like it is worth keeping an eye on is Far Away by HongCha Games

Lollipop Chainsaw

Lollipop Chainsaw

Lollipop Chainsaw features a lollipop sucking, chainsaw-wielding cheerleader taking down hordes of zombies with the head of her boyfriend tied to her waist. The best part is that’s not even the weirdest things you’ll encounter in this game. Fans of over the top and action-packed hacking and slashing will have a blast with Lollipop Chainsaw, but it might just be a little too weird for some.

Gameplay: Lots of fun, but a few more levels would have been great.

Graphics: Plenty of variety and some nice animations.

Sound: Features an incredible soundtrack and good voice acting

Heavy Fire: Afghanistan

Heavy Fire: Afghanistan

Heavy Fire: Afghanistan is a low budget on-rails shooter that can be fun in short bursts, but end up being repetitive in the long run. The most fun comes from gathering together three friends to join in, but moving cross-hairs around the screen with a mouse or controllers is never going to compare to using actual light-guns. While the game runs decent enough, it is the small things such as poor voice acting, lackluster sound effects, and mediocre visuals that bring it down.

Gameplay: Somewhat entertaining in short bursts, but ultimately very forgettable.

Graphics: Not too bad for a budget title, but has some obvious limitations.

Sound: Poor voice acting, poor sound effects, and the music doesn’t fare much better

Zombie Derby 2

Zombie Derby 2

Zombie Derby 2 follows the exact same formula as the original, so you are still driving through hordes of zombies while trying to conserve fuel and avoid obstacles. All the action takes place on a 2D plane, so you are driving in a straight line, but getting to the end is not easy unless your vehicle is fully upgraded. The game features a lot of grinding, but it is still fun and perfect for killing a few minutes.

Gameplay: Simple, but addictive and quite challenging, especially the Extreme mode.

Graphics: All the 3D assets look much better compared to the original game as does the backgrounds.

Sound: Great if you enjoy guitar-driven music tracks

AFK Arena Advert Features Elijah Wood and A Jilted Orc

AFK Arena Advert Features Elijah Wood and A Jilted Orc

We’ve just seen Elijah Wood reduce a 7ft Orc named Uzgahk to tears and surprisingly it has nothing to do with Lord of the Rings. Instead, the Orc in question is feeling rejected after discovering that Elijah has grown bored with his old RPG and is spending his time with AFK Arena instead. This is all part of the new “Cheat on your RPG” TV campaign by Lilith Games, developers of AFK Arena

Gears of War 2

Gears of War 2

Gears of War 2 builds on the success of the original game with more action, better visuals, tighter controls, and plenty of other improvements. Players once again take control of Marcus Fenix and battle against the scourge of the Locust Horde, but this time the levels open up more compared to the claustrophobic original. This results in plenty of scenes that are way more epic than anything in the original. As far as sequels go this is one of the best.

Gameplay: Action-packed, over the top, and filled with memorable set pieces.

Graphics: Better looking than the original thanks to much bigger and more open levels.

Sound: Great voice acting, sound effects, and music

What On Earth Is The Future Of Gaming Anyway?

What On Earth Is The Future Of Gaming Anyway?

Another new console generation is now upon us with the Xbox Series X and the PS5. You can bet that Nintendo is preparing for their next step in the console wars too. It’s fair to say that both of the latest consoles are going to have some impressive advancements. The Series X is expected to be the most powerful gaming console ever created. The PS5 has been designed to ensure that you can gain the benefits of 3D sound, regardless of what display you are using, although will likely start by ensuring that this works with headphones. Ray tracing is a big buzzword right now due to the impact it’s going to have on the graphics of the games. There’s also a rumor – it’s unconfirmed – that long load terms will be a problem of the past
