The world of gaming is tremendously vast and exciting these days, with a title out there for just about any preference and budget.

While many think of the biggest-selling games of each year such as your licensed sports games and the latest FPS, there are so many developers out there who have put their own unique spin on the common and established tropes of big-hit titles. This isn’t to say that these games are knockoffs – such a view couldn’t be further from the truth – as they actually expand what it means to be a game of that genre.

Superhero League of Hoboken

Superhero League of Hoboken is a really bizarre and off the wall game, but that’s what made it so entertaining and refreshing back when it was first released. It features challenging battles and plenty of neat puzzles, which still makes it worth playing in this day and age. Some elements of the game have aged better than others, but if you missed out the first time round then you’ll still find plenty of entertainment here. Just keep in mind that the game is a couple of decades old at this point.

Gameplay: Very fun to play and quite unique for its time.

Graphics: Obviously very dated now, but still has plenty of neat elements.

Sound: Once again not bad for its time

Should We Expect an Age of Mythology Sequel Soon?

Few PC fans have escaped the addictive excitement of the Age of Empires series. Some joined the hype in the 1990s with the launch of the first game, which literally forced you to build a civilization from nothing back in the stone age, while others were immersed in the Age of Mythology spin-off that showed the true power of the gods. With Age of Empires being remastered and there being a whole Microsoft studio devoted to Age of Empires, can we expect more from Age of Mythology?

The Longing

The Longing is a unique title that combines elements of adventure and idle games. Playing as the lonely Shade, it is your task to simply wait 400 days in the dark caverns deep below the surface before waking up your king. Of course, nothing is preventing you from exploring your surroundings or even trying to find an escape, but 400 days counting down in almost real-time you’ll find that nothing in this game can be rushed.

Gameplay: You’ll find that patience really is a virtue when playing The Longing.

Graphics: The protagonist is certainly a memorable character and the visual style is very charming.

Sound: The soundtrack is great and the sound effects enhance the lonely atmosphere of the game

Hidden Through Time

Hidden Through Time is a charming little game that challenges you to locate a variety of small objects amongst levels full of hand-drawn characters and objects. The visuals are bright and colorful while the four different time periods ensure plenty of variety. Although the 26 levels included with the game can be completed in no time, Hidden Through Time also features a nice level editor and access to tons of user-generated content to increase its longevity.

Gameplay: Very easy to pick up and play, but it’s also very easy to get hooked.

Graphics: The visuals are quite charming and are packed with some nice detail.

Sound: Nothing spectacular, but fits the theme of the game

Bayonetta PC Game Reviews

Bayonetta

Bayonetta was already a hit on consoles, but despite the years it took to reach PC, this is by far the best version of the game. It looks great, runs smoothly, and retains all the over-the-top action and excitement. The story is perhaps a bit too convoluted for its own good, but it provides players with plenty of unique enemies to pummel and some hilarious scenes that must be seen to be believed. If you like hack-and-slash games, you can’t go wrong with Bayonetta.

Gameplay: Bayonetta is stylish, over the top, and a lot of fun once you hone your reflexes.

Graphics: This is the best the game has ever looked since its release on consoles.

Sound: Everything from the voice acting to the soundtrack is top-notch

Love Bakudan by Noodletub Games

There has been a bit of a boom lately when it comes to visual novels, but fans of the genre will agree that there’s always room for more, especially yuri ones. That’s why it’s great to see that there are small indie teams like Noodletub that are trying to make great yuri themed games. Noodletub recently launched a Kickstarter for LOVE BAKUDAN an 18+ yuri visual novel that takes place in Japan. The game promises to combine elements of comedy and drama, along with a spicy adult twist on top

Mokoko PC Game Reviews

Mokoko

Mokoko is a fun Qix inspired title that fuses addictive gameplay with some lewd visuals. It shares a lot of similarities with the Gals Panic series by Kaneko, but adds enough wacky elements of its own so that it doesn’t just feel like a cheap clone. The free nudity patch is completely optional, but even without it, Mokoko is not exactly a family-friendly game. Nevertheless, it’s a fun game and definitely offers a lot of value for money.

Gameplay: It uses the tried and tested Qix formula, so you know it’s addictive and fun.

Graphics: Nothing spectacular, but the art is decent overall.

Sound: The soundtrack is decent and the voice acting is pretty good

LUNA The Shadow Dust

Help a young boy and his cute cat-like companion reach the top of a mysterious tower in this beautiful point & click adventure by Lantern Studio. Luna The Shadow Dust features gorgeous hand-drawn artwork and a beautiful soundtrack to complement the brainteasers. It’s not a very lengthy game, but controlling two different characters makes for enjoyable puzzle solving. The lack of dialog and inventory may disappoint fans of more traditional point & click adventures, everyone else will have fun with this title.

Gameplay: Tricky in spots, but nothing that can’t be solved by paying attention to your surroundings.

Graphics: The hand-drawn visual style of the game is simply beautiful.

Sound: No voice-acting, but the soundtrack is excellent
