Submerged provides a relaxing and compelling experience without requiring quick reflexes or lateral thinking. Some players will find this boring and repetitive, while others will revel in the tranquil atmosphere and beautiful environments. Despite the climbing and exploration Submerged is closer to titles such as Dear Esther instead of Assassins Creed, but it is definitely something fans of the genre will enjoy.

Gameplay: Submerged offers a stress-free and tranquil experience that is devoid of combat or puzzles.

Graphics: The water and lighting effects are great, and the environments look downright beautiful at times.

Sound: The haunting soundtrack is a great match for the atmosphere of the game

One thing is for sure, Surgeon Simulator 2013 is not going to appeal to everyone. I had a blast with the unwieldy controls and the accidental mishaps is just as entertaining as finally nailing the surgery. A lot of patience is required if you want to become good at this game, but it is worth the effort.

Gameplay: Either utterly brilliant or utterly frustrating depending on how patient you are.

Graphics: Good in a gory and darkly humorous way.

Sound: Has a nice synth-laden soundtrack

For anyone savvy enough to roll their eyes at the “hacking” in Hollywood movies, but lacking in the time or inclination to master the art themselves, Team Fractal Alligator might have the solution. Their upcoming title, Hacknet, is one of the few games based around hacking that looks like it might actually be worthy of the “Simulation” tag. The game challenges players to unravel the mystery of a deceased hacker by following the instructions in his automated emails

Runespell: Overture shares many similarities with the Puzzle Quest series, but never quite manages to be as great. It is undeniably addictive and has some great ideas, but can become repetitive and the whole thing ends rather abruptly. Considering the low price tag it is well worth checking out however.

Gameplay: Addictive but can become repetitive.

Graphics: Nice considering the limitations.

Sound: Orchestral soundtrack and great sound effects

Quest for Infamy

Quest for Infamy offers an authentic 90s era point & click adventure experience infused with role playing elements. It has a very offbeat sense of humor, interesting cast of characters and tons of locations to explore. The voice acting is a bit uneven and lack of hotspots can make some puzzles harder than they should be, but overall this is a game that all fans of the genre will appreciate and enjoy.

Gameplay: Very true to the point & click adventures of the 90s.

Graphics: Packed with detail and animations despite the low resolution.

Sound: Features a great soundtrack and full voice acting for all characters

Pinball Arcade – Table Pack 1

The first table pack contains two tables from Midway, both of which were great for their time. Although the tables have aged a bit, especially The Machine: Bride of Pin Bot, they still hold up very well. Medieval Madness in particular is a very entertaining table that can keep you busy for hours, but Bride of Pin Bot is definitely a lot of fun as well despite some repetition. If you don’t have these two tables in your collection yet, you are missing out.

Gameplay: Two great new tables from the nineties.

Graphics: The tables appear to have been recreated as faithfully as possible.

Sound: Nice tunes and plenty of speech samples on both tables

Octodad: Dadliest Catch

Octodad is one of those games that I just had to play after hearing about the concept and I can say that I was definitely not disappointed. The game loses some of its momentum towards the end due to forced stealth sections but overall it is a blast to play. Grabbing a few friends and playing the co-op mode where everyone is given a different limb to control is also a definite highlight.

Gameplay: Mix tricky controls with a physics engine and watch the ensuing hilarity.

Graphics: Charming and colorful.

Sound: Pretty good overall

Nihilumbra is one of those games that is hard to put down once you start playing. The stylish hand painted visuals along with some excellent creature designs give the game a visual flair of its own while the brilliant narration and moody soundtrack sucks you into the gameworld. Things start off deceptively easy but, once you unlock Void mode, you better be prepared to put all your skills to the test.

Gameplay: A charming mixture of platforming and puzzle solving.

Graphics: The hand painted visuals are stylish and enhances the atmosphere.
