DOR
What does a shy vampire, office ladies looking for a date and the super hero, Armored Fighter Gyleban have in common with each other? Well they are all scenarios that lie behind a strange door, created by the devil and awaiting your decision. The tales have nothing in common except offering you an escape into the realm of fantasy.
This English version of DOR is actually a combination of two tales from the original Japanese DOR and one from its sequel, DOR2. Considering that both games came out in the early nineties for the PC-98 it's a little surprising that this version only includes three scenarios. Each scenario offers you about fifteen minutes of fun so it would have been better value for money to include all six scenarios. As far as I know, there have actually been five previous DOR titles released in Japan so only including three scenarios is a bit of a rip-off. In "Konakos Depression" a young vampire girl knocks on your door and begs for blood. Your character agrees but only if the vampire becomes his slave for a day. In "The Telephone Scandal" your character calls a dating line to hook up with either an office lady or fellow student. Finally in "Armored Fighter Gyleban" you don the special armor of Ryosei Motoso to save his partner Ikumi from the tentacles of an evil beast. Each scenario is as corny as they sound and offer very little surprises. For the most part you simply click on all the available options until the text repeats or the scene progresses. Only the "Armored Fighter Gyleban" scenario requires you to pay attention to the options you choose to avoid a "Game Over" screen. Visually the game looks very dated which is hardly surprising considering the age of the episodes. The art style isn't too bad however and there is some attempts at animation in the form of blinking eyes and moving lips. As for the actual h-scenes, things are rather tame with mosaic censoring of anything below the belt. There are some unremarkable background music and Japanese voice acting to go along with the English text. Overall there is very little to recommend about DOR. The scenarios are just way too short to offer any value for money. DOR is a nukige game so don't expect any deep storylines or interesting character developments. What are left are some tame, censored h-scenes which are hardly worth the money or effort to obtain.
