Plain Sight
Plain Sight is a fast paced Indie arcade title that throws together robot ninjas in space based arenas. Jumping all over the place you need to destroy the other ninjas by slamming into them. They respawn again but you are rewarded with all the energy that they were carrying around. The twist is that in order to translate this energy into points you have to self-destruct. Getting killed by another player will transfer all your energy to them so running around with lots of energy will reward you with more points for your kills but at the risk of losing it all.
Plain Sight is a chaotic game to see in action and new players might find themselves overwhelmed. The levels are all set in space and every object and platform has its own gravitational pull which makes for some very interesting gameplay. It can be very tricky to maneuver your character precisely as the camera spins and wobbles all over the place and the fact that there is no up or down can be very disorienting. Each character also leaves long glowing trails behind them signifying the amount of energy they are carrying which adds further to the chaos. While the game can be played against bots its clearly meant for online multi-player every time I played there were usually lots of dedicated servers filled with eager opponents. Steam achievements and leaderboards further encourages competitiveness and there's a wealth of game modes to try out. Straightforward ones like deathmatch, team deathmatch and capture the flag are nice but its the unique modes like "Ninja, ninja, Botzilla!" and "Light Up" which are the most fun. Ganging up on the player that becomes "Godzilla" to cut them down to size is loads of fun as is trying to be the ninja that detonates himself on a designated spot with the most energy stored. The simple cell-shaded graphics fit the game perfectly but things can become very chaotic and the controls are very fiddly. You have to hold in the attack button until you have a lock on your enemy and then release it in order to slam into them and hopefully destroy them. The problem is that the game often seem to randomly decide which player you will lock on and with the spinning camera you will slam into the scenery more than your targets. Players can also block or repel your attacks which add to the challenge. The points that you receive will allow you to buy various perks during matches so the risk of getting a lot of energy before self destructing is often worth the rewards. The more energy you have before suicide the larger your detonation will be and hopefully the more enemies will be caught in the blast which add even more glorious points. Plain Sight is a very entertaining game but won't be to everyone's liking. It takes a while to fully master the gameplay mechanics but once you do there's hours of fun ahead of you. The game also seem to be updated with new maps and achievements making it great value for money. |
