NEOGEO POCKET COLOR SELECTION Vol. 1 Steam Edition

NEOGEO POCKET COLOR SELECTION Vol. 1 Steam Edition

NEOGEO POCKET COLOR SELECTION Vol. 1 Steam Edition is an excellent retro compilation, especially for fans of SNK’s handheld fighting games. This collection is stacked with classics but lacks SNK Vs. Capcom: Match of the Millennium, which was included in the Nintendo Switch release. Nevertheless, there are hours of entertainment here, and the presentation is top-notch. If you are a retro fan or loved the original hardware, you will definitely appreciate this compilation.

Gameplay: Lots of great fighting games, but the other titles are great too.

Graphics: The games obviously show their age but still look great for what they are.

Sound: Limited by the original hardware, but not bad overall

Pretty Girls Breakout!

Pretty Girls Breakout!

Pretty Girls Breakout! is an anime-themed take on the popular Breakout genre and features a selection of girls, all with different costumes to unlock. The gameplay is essentially the same as traditional Breakout games, with the exception of not just moving a paddle left and right, but controlling a little character who can swing a paddle at incoming balls and projectiles. It’s not a very long game, but it is affordable and offers a relaxing way to kill some time.

Gameplay: Very straightforward, but later levels can be challenging.

Graphics: The character sprites are beautiful, and the visuals are very colorful overall.

Sound: A decent selection of tunes and sound effects

Embr

Embr

Embr is a frantic multiplayer title where players must fight fires and save clients from burning buildings. While it can be played solo, it’s clear that the game was designed for groups of four. Things start out relatively straightforward, but as players progress through the three districts, the missions become a lot more convoluted. This might annoy players looking for a straightforward firefighting game, but the large levels filled with traps and puzzles do keep things interesting. Embr does have some rough edges and can do with a bit more polish in its current state, but overall it is a lot of fun.

Gameplay: An absolute blast to play with friends and plenty of reasons to keep coming back for more.

Graphics: The visuals are simple but fit the over-the-top style of the game.

Sound: Decent sound effects and a nice jazzy soundtrack to accompany the chaos

The rhythm elements are less pronounced than in other titles, but Beat Souls still features a selection of great tunes and over-the-top visuals to accompany the frantic action.
