SOMA

Soma is a sci-fi, horror experience that is set deep below the waves of the Atlantic ocean. At first glance, it might seem like Bioshock without the combat but delve deeper and you will find a deeply engrossing experience that is filled with thought-provoking themes. The game features excellent visuals, great sound design, and a story that will stay with you for days. It might disappoint some players looking for a pure horror or action title, but overall Frictional Games knocked it out of the park with Soma.

Gameplay: The game draws you in right from the start and doesn’t let go.

Graphics: Detailed environments and stunning underwater locations.

Sound: Everything from voice acting to music and sound effects is top-notch

Seven Doors

Seven Doors is a puzzle game that challenges players to navigate their way through several unique challenges. Each room challenges players in a different way and the developers have come up with plenty of unique scenarios. There isn’t really an over-arching story to tie everything together and the game is also quite short, but it’s an enjoyable experience while it lasts.

Gameplay: Seven Doors will challenge your problem-solving skills in several unique ways.

Graphics: Not cutting-edge, but impressive enough for a small studio.

Sound: Very good

The Longing

The Longing is a unique title that combines elements of adventure and idle games. Playing as the lonely Shade, it is your task to simply wait 400 days in the dark caverns deep below the surface before waking up your king. Of course, nothing is preventing you from exploring your surroundings or even trying to find an escape, but 400 days counting down in almost real-time you’ll find that nothing in this game can be rushed.

Gameplay: You’ll find that patience really is a virtue when playing The Longing.

Graphics: The protagonist is certainly a memorable character and the visual style is very charming.

Sound: The soundtrack is great and the sound effects enhance the lonely atmosphere of the game

Mokoko PC Game Reviews

Mokoko

Mokoko is a fun Qix inspired title that fuses addictive gameplay with some lewd visuals. It shares a lot of similarities with the Gals Panic series by Kaneko, but adds enough wacky elements of its own so that it doesn’t just feel like a cheap clone. The free nudity patch is completely optional, but even without it, Mokoko is not exactly a family-friendly game. Nevertheless, it’s a fun game and definitely offers a lot of value for money.

Gameplay: It uses the tried and tested Qix formula, so you know it’s addictive and fun.

Graphics: Nothing spectacular, but the art is decent overall.

Sound: The soundtrack is decent and the voice acting is pretty good

LUNA The Shadow Dust PC Game Reviews

LUNA The Shadow Dust

Help a young boy and his cute cat-like companion reach the top of a mysterious tower in this beautiful point & click adventure by Lantern Studio. Luna The Shadow Dust features gorgeous hand-drawn artwork and a beautiful soundtrack to complement the brainteasers. It’s not a very lengthy game, but controlling two different characters makes for enjoyable puzzle solving. The lack of dialog and inventory may disappoint fans of more traditional point & click adventures, everyone else will have fun with this title.

Gameplay: Tricky in spots, but nothing that can’t be solved by paying attention to your surroundings.

Graphics: The hand-drawn visual style of the game is simply beautiful.

Sound: No voice-acting, but the soundtrack is excellent

Dead End Job PC Game Reviews

Dead End Job

Dead End Job is a twin-stick shooter where players take control of Hector Plasm, a ghost exterminator on a mission to save his mentor’s soul. To accomplish this Hector will need a lot of cash, but luckily there is no shortage of people willing to pay him to shoot ghosts with his plasma blaster before sucking up the pesky spirits in a vacuum pack. The procedurally generated levels in this game span several distinct districts and the game is a lot of fun. Dying means losing all your perks, which sucks and the co-op is a bit of a letdown due to the limitations of the secondary character, but overall Dead End Job has a lot to offer.

Gameplay: Shoot ghosts to stun them, then suck them up in a vacuum pack.

Graphics: Very colorful and there’s a wide range of different ghosts types to encounter.

Sound: The soundtrack fits the style of the game perfectly and there’s even a neat intro theme song

Everreach: Project Eden PC Game Reviews

Everreach: Project Eden

Everreach: Project Eden is a sci-fi themed third-person shooter with some RPG elements thrown into the mix as well. It’s not a bad looking game but struggles with cumbersome controls, stiff animations, and combat that lacks excitement. The story is interesting once you get caught up in it but prepare for some frustration and lack of polish along the way.

Gameplay: Rather short and could have benefited from some more polish.

Graphics: The visuals look good, but the animations are rather stiff.

Sound: Nice soundtrack, but the sound effects are rather lacking

Cat Quest II PC Game Reviews

Cat Quest II

Cat Quest 2 takes all the elements that made the original game such a hit and polishes everything to a fine sheen. It’s not the most challenging 2D action RPG on the market, but it has a lot of charm and is still incredibly addictive. The main story is brief, but there are many side quests and optional dungeons that can keep players busy for ages. Although Cat Quest 2 is not perfect, it’s a lot of fun and will appeal to fans of the first game, as well as newcomers looking for an accessible title.

Gameplay: It’s not very challenging, but it’s a lot of fun.

Graphics: The 2D visuals are beautiful and stylish.

Sound: The game features a decent soundtrack and sound effects

Mythic Ocean (Paralune LLC) Previews

Mythic Ocean (Paralune LLC)

It’s not every day that you get to swim around a tranquil underwater kingdom and interact with a pantheon of gods, but that’s precisely what is in store for players of Mythic Ocean. The game is set to release sometime later this year, but the developers, Paralune was kind enough to provide us with a demo to check out in the meantime. They describe Mythic Ocean as a narrative exploration game, which is pretty apt as there is no combat or death to worry about in this title. Instead, you can take your time to explore your surroundings and chat with the goofy cast of characters that inhabit it
