It’s hard to believe that it’s already been more than two decades since Shadow Man crossed our screens, but the original game was released way back in 1999. Thanks to Nightdive Studios the game was re-released in 2013 on GOG and later Steam, but now the remastered version is finally on the horizon. Help Death take back the souls stolen by Bastard Dracula in this Breakout-style game by Retro Army Limited. It features plenty of different levels, useful power-ups, and some big bosses. The game is easy to pick up and play, but finding all the souls can be challenging. The eighteen different endings, two-player mode, and level editor boost the replay value, though, and overall, the game is a decent choice for fans of the genre.
Gameplay: The game is challenging and entertaining.
Graphics: The pixel art visuals of Death’s Hangover look great.
Sound: The audio features decent sound effects and music

Alien Scumbags is an action-packed platform shooter filled with action, blood, gore, and pop culture easter eggs. It’s short enough to complete in one session, but the low asking price coupled with the high replay value makes it a no-brainer for fans of the genre.
Gameplay: Lots of monsters to shoot and secrets to find.
Graphics: A nice throwback to the era of pixel art platformers.
Sound: Great music, sound effects, and voice acting

Players old enough to remember New World Computing will probably associate them with the Might and Magic as well as King’s Bounty series. However, the studio also had a couple of other interesting titles in their line-up. Now, thanks to Ziggurat, three of the mid-90s classic by New World Computing are available on Steam for the very first time. The games are Wetlands, Zephyr, and Planet’s Edge, all of which can be bought on Steam at a 33% discount until the 12th of February, 2021

Like its predecessor, Curse of the Moon 2 emulates the classic 8-bit Castlevania titles, particularly Castlevania III. It looks, sounds, and plays very much like an NES title, but unfortunately, this means that it is also frequently very unfair and unforgiving. The increased amount of enemies during the platforming sections makes for a more frustrating experience than the first game and the playtime is also padded out by having to repeatedly complete all the levels to experience all the endings. As a sequel, it makes some improvements but also stumbles a few times, which is disappointing. It’s certainly not a bad game but loses some of the magic and novelty that the original had.
Gameplay: Very challenging, but also a little too frustrating at times.
Graphics: Great sprite work and once again very true to the 8-bit Castlevania era.
Sound: Authentic, but doesn’t come close to the Castlevania titles in this regard

OutDrive combines the Synthwave aesthetic with some nice music for an endless runner where you must maintain your speed to keep a girl alive. Unfortunately, it is let down by the controls and a lack of variety. Nevertheless, the game is cheap, and you can also import your own tracks, so as long as you can put up with the controls, there is still fun to be had.
Gameplay: The controls are lacking, and the game doesn’t have a lot of variety.
Graphics: OutDrive perfectly captures the Synthwave aesthetic.
Sound: The soundtrack is very fitting, and players can also use custom songs
