MECHBLAZE

MECHBLAZE is a no-nonsense run and gun mech shooter with some great bosses to take down. The game does have a bit of a learning curve due to the controls, but multiple difficulty settings ensure that it is accessible to players of all skill levels. Fans of ASTRO PORT and the Astro Saga universe that they have created will have the most fun with this game, but we also recommend it to anyone who loves a good shooter.

Gameplay: Plenty of guns and more than enough enemies to shoot at.

Graphics: The enemy designs and animations look great.

Sound: Decent, but outstanding

Splatter – Zombiecalypse Now

Splatter – Zombiecalypse Now is a film-noir-style top-down shooter starring a trench-coat and fedora-wearing protagonist on a quest to kill lots of zombies. The game doesn’t skimp on the blood and gore but can become slightly repetitive. However, plenty of guns, enemies, and destructible environments ensure there’s never a dull moment. If you are a fan of the genre, then this game should keep you interested to the end.

Gameplay: Hordes of monsters to kill and plenty of different environments.

Graphics: The game contains lots of blood and gore.

Sound: The voice acting is a bit ropey, but everything else sounds good

Heavy Fire: Afghanistan

Heavy Fire: Afghanistan is a low budget on-rails shooter that can be fun in short bursts, but end up being repetitive in the long run. The most fun comes from gathering together three friends to join in, but moving cross-hairs around the screen with a mouse or controllers is never going to compare to using actual light-guns. While the game runs decent enough, it is the small things such as poor voice acting, lackluster sound effects, and mediocre visuals that bring it down.

Gameplay: Somewhat entertaining in short bursts, but ultimately very forgettable.

Graphics: Not too bad for a budget title, but has some obvious limitations.

Sound: Poor voice acting, poor sound effects, and the music doesn’t fare much better

Gears of War 2

Gears of War 2 builds on the success of the original game with more action, better visuals, tighter controls, and plenty of other improvements. Players once again take control of Marcus Fenix and battle against the scourge of the Locust Horde, but this time the levels open up more compared to the claustrophobic original. This results in plenty of scenes that are way more epic than anything in the original. As far as sequels go this is one of the best.

Gameplay: Action-packed, over the top, and filled with memorable set pieces.

Graphics: Better looking than the original thanks to much bigger and more open levels.

Sound: Great voice acting, sound effects, and music

Guns, Gore & Cannoli

Take on the mob, the military, and the undead in this Mafia-themed 2D shooter. Playing as a mob enforcer named Vinnie, this game unleashes players on a city that has been overrun by the living dead. A large arsenal of weapons makes for a fun shooter, but the controls are a little stiff, and the adventure is sadly short-lived. Nevertheless, the game does have its moments and provides plenty of mayhem while it lasts.

Gameplay: Shooting zombies in the head is always fun.

Graphics: The art style is detailed and unique.

Sound: The music and one-liners make it sound like a Mafia B-movie

Super Trench Attack!

Super Trench Attack! is a twin-stick shooter with a unique pixel art style and tons of goofy humor. It’s not particularly challenging or very long, but it is fun while it lasts and packs a bit more depth than you might think.

Gameplay: The game is a basic top-down shooter with some shooting galleries thrown in for good measure.

Graphics: The pixel art visuals are detailed and often quite humorous.

Sound: The game features exaggerated sound effects along with some fitting music

Aaero

Aaero is a rhythm shooter that sees players flying through stylized environments while blasting enemies to the beat of electronic music. It is very challenging and unforgiving but also very addictive, and depending on your musical taste, it has a great soundtrack. The lack of support for things like Steam Workshop and custom songs limits the replay value a bit, but mastering all the songs should keep most players busy for ages.

Gameplay: Aaero is challenging, intense, and very addictive.

Graphics: The visuals of the game are beautiful and varied.

Sound: Aaero features a great electronic music soundtrack

Double Kick Heroes

Double Kick Heroes is a unique blend of rhythm action and shooting wrapped up in beautiful pixel art and a heavy metal soundtrack. The game is challenging, especially on the higher difficulty settings and the music is good enough to put a smile on the face of any metalhead. However, it’s a pity that doing well requires players to watch the rhythm bar like a hawk and thereby miss out on all the pixel art action. Nevertheless, this is a fun game with lots of modes to keep players coming back for more.

Gameplay: An interesting new take on the rhythm action genre.

Graphics: Lovely pixel art visuals with plenty of great enemy designs.

Sound: If you love metal you’ll love the soundtrack

Juicy Realm Receives Eagerly Awaited Crossplay Update

Fans of the roguelike twin-stick shooter, Juicy Realm, is in for a treat with the latest update. Not only does the update, which went live today, include the eagerly anticipated co-op mode, but also a few other extras. X.D. network and SpaceCan unveiled the Lan Crossplay Update for the indie shooter, which allows friends who are on different platforms to play together as long as they are on the same local network. The update is available already for PC and mobile users while Nintendo Switch owners will receive it soon too
