Dead Space™ 2

Dead Space™ 2

Dead Space 2 is a thrill a minute rollercoaster ride through an infected space station and while some people might be put off by all the action it does make for a very gripping game. The frights are less this time round, but the tension is still high and as far as sequels go this one is good.

Gameplay: The same core gameplay as the first game just way more action packed.

Graphics: While not the best I’ve seen the art style is good and the locations way more varied and interesting.

Sound: Ominous

Resident Evil 5

Resident Evil 5

Resident Evil 5 ramps up the action and adds a partner into the mix, but the clunky controls really put a damper on the fun. The game is at its best when played in co-op but the single player experience can be a slog at times due to the dubious actions of your partner. If you are looking for scares then you can safely pass up on Resident Evil 5, but if you want a mindless shooter with some impressive set pieces then give it a try.

Gameplay: Action packed but the controls and the AI partner lets things down.

Graphics: Very nice, but some levels look much better than others.

Sound: Good but not exactly memorable

Max Payne 3

Max Payne 3

Max Payne 3 is quite a big departure from past installments, both in tone and visuals. It is however still a great game with plenty of action packed sequences. The over-abundance of cut-scenes can be a bit annoying for those that want to get right to the action but the story is gripping enough and takes Max to some pretty dark places. Highly recommended.

Gameplay: Feels like you are in the middle of a big-budget action movie.

Graphics: Excellent with lots of varied locations.

Sound: Awesome voice acting and a great soundtrack

Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune

Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune

Uncharted may not have the most original plot, but the lead characters are likeable and the locations exotic. While you will spend more time exercising your trigger finger than exploring, the game has plenty of action and a ton of a extras. While it could have been a bit longer the treasure hunting will keep you coming back for more.

Gameplay: Great but maybe too much emphasis on gunfights.

Graphics: Detailed and vibrant.

Sound: Good voice acting and atmospheric music

Armored Core 2

Armored Core 2

It took quite a few tries before this game started growing on me, but if you are a fan of the series and semi-realistic mech games in general then you’ll enjoy this one. Missions are short and action packed and the amount of customization is insane, but the clunky controls and steep learning curve is sure to scare away some people.

Gameplay: If you like customizing mechs and blowing up enemies you’ll love this game.

Graphics: Not the greatest, but the customization makes up for it.

Sound: Not bad overall, but the voice acting is just plain weird
