Alien Breed 35th Anniversary Collection Brings Six Amiga Classics to Modern Platforms
Alien Breed is returning to modern platforms in a collection that goes considerably further than simply bundling together a few emulated classics.Alien Breed 35th Anniversary Collection will launch for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on September 24, 2026. Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 versions are expected to follow later this fall.
Developed by Antstream in collaboration with Team17 and published by Commodore, the collection brings together six releases from the series’ formative Amiga era. It is the first time this complete run has been assembled in a single package.
The included games are Alien Breed (1991), Alien Breed: Special Edition (1992), Alien Breed II: The Horror Continues (1993), Alien Breed: Tower Assault (1994), Alien Breed 3D (1995) and Alien Breed 3D II: The Killing Grounds (1996).
Where relevant, multiple original editions have also been preserved. Alien Breed II includes its ECS and AGA versions, Tower Assault contains both the Amiga and CD32 releases, and the CD32 version of Alien Breed 3D is included alongside the rest of the collection.
The result traces a particularly interesting period in the franchise’s history. The earlier games combine top-down shooting, maze-like environments, limited resources and oppressive science-fiction horror, while the two Alien Breed 3D titles show Team17 taking the series into first-person combat during the mid-1990s.
Antstream has added a range of modern conveniences without removing the original versions. Full twin-stick controls are supported across the 2D and 3D games, with mouse-and-keyboard controls available for the first-person entries. Improved frame rates, multiple save-state slots and configurable visual, audio and gameplay options are also included.
Players can choose between the original 4:3 presentation and a modern 16:9 format. A retro-visual suite adds scanline, CRT TV and “Mega CRT” filters, along with optional decorative bezels for those who prefer a more period-appropriate presentation.
Local co-op from the original games has been preserved, while new multiplayer options extend the collection beyond straightforward emulation.
Rush Mode introduces peer-to-peer online co-op built around high-stakes runs with no saves and no continues. An entirely new Horde Mode can be played solo, challenging players to survive increasingly relentless waves of enemies for as long as possible.
The most substantial addition may be the collection’s interactive historical archive.
Presented in-universe as The Vault, the museum contains concept artwork, material from the original retail releases, soundtracks, retrospective videos and newly recorded developer interviews. It also reaches into parts of Alien Breed history that never made it to store shelves, including design documents and concept art from cancelled PSP and real-time strategy projects.
That archival material gives the release a stronger preservation angle than the average anniversary compilation. Rather than treating the six games as isolated curiosities, the collection is attempting to document how the series and its technology evolved across the first half of the 1990s.
A free PC demo is already available through Steam for anyone interested in seeing how the modern controls and presentation options handle the originals before launch.
Alien Breed 35th Anniversary Collection will be released for PC through Steam, GOG and the Epic Games Store on September 24, 2026, alongside the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S editions. The Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 versions are planned for later in 2026.
