Space might be the final frontier, but Deliver Us The Moon makes it feel more like humanity’s final hope. Set in a near future where Earth’s natural resources have been exhausted, and devastating dust storms have become commonplace, the game casts players as the lone astronaut sent to investigate a silent lunar colony. Humanity once relied on energy transmitted from the Moon, but when the colony suddenly went dark, the power stopped flowing, and the people left on Earth were placed on borrowed time.
Deliver Us The Moon opens with the astronaut arriving at an abandoned launch facility as part of the Fortuna mission. The first objective is simply reaching the rocket and getting it into space, but even this sequence establishes the lonely tone that defines the rest of the experience. There are no cheering crowds, bustling mission-control rooms, or technicians helping with the launch. The facility is deserted, the planet outside is being swallowed by dust, and the player is expected to complete every step alone.
The game feels like the love child of Interstellar and Gravity, combining the former’s desperate mission to save humanity with the latter’s vulnerability and isolation in space. It is not a horror game, but few traditional horror titles make emptiness feel this threatening. Long corridors stretch through abandoned lunar stations, personal belongings remain where their owners left them, and the only movement often comes from machinery that has continued operating long after the people disappeared.
Players are tasked with restoring the Microwave Power Transmission system and discovering what happened to the World Space Agency personnel stationed on the Moon. The colony was not destroyed by an obvious catastrophe, and there are no alien monsters waiting around every corner. Instead, the truth is pieced together through audio recordings, documents, environmental details, holographic reconstructions, and personal messages left behind by the colonists. This method of storytelling works exceptionally well because the structures themselves begin to feel like crime scenes preserved in vacuum.
Deliver Us The Moon shifts between first- and third-person perspectives depending on the situation. Much of the on-foot exploration is shown from behind the astronaut, while some interactive sequences and sections involving the small ASE robot use a first-person view. The transitions are handled naturally enough and allow the game to frame its more cinematic moments without locking itself into one style.
The ASE becomes the astronaut’s only real companion for much of the mission. This small floating robot can enter areas inaccessible to the player, interface with machinery, and assist with puzzles. It does not turn the game into a companion-management exercise, but its presence helps soften the loneliness slightly. The relationship is conveyed without constant dialogue or elaborate exposition, which makes the little machine surprisingly endearing.
Most of the gameplay revolves around exploration and environmental puzzle solving. Players must restore power, reroute systems, decipher access codes, move equipment, repair machinery, and work out how to reach sealed areas. Many puzzles involve locating power cells or manipulating devices in the correct order, but the game regularly changes the context enough to prevent the entire adventure from feeling like one long maintenance shift.
The puzzles are generally logical and rarely difficult enough to halt progress for long. This makes Deliver Us The Moon accessible, but experienced puzzle fans might find it a little too straightforward. The game is more interested in preserving narrative momentum than forcing players to spend an hour staring at a control panel. Most solutions can be worked out by examining the immediate surroundings and paying attention to information found nearby.
There are also more action-oriented sequences to break up the slower exploration. Players get to launch a rocket, navigate zero-gravity environments, drive a lunar rover, avoid electrical hazards, and complete tasks while oxygen steadily runs out. These moments add some welcome urgency, especially after extended periods of quietly searching abandoned facilities.
The zero-gravity sections are particularly effective at selling the setting. Floating through a station while turning in multiple directions creates an authentic sense of disorientation, and even simple navigation becomes more demanding when there is no obvious floor. The controls can feel awkward until players adjust to the extra freedom of movement, but the sensation of drifting through a powerless space station is worth the initial discomfort.
Oxygen becomes a concern during certain exterior and emergency sequences. These sections place a visible limit on how long players can remain exposed and require them to locate refill stations or oxygen tanks before the supply runs out. The mechanic is not used frequently enough to transform the game into a survival title, but it adds tension and reinforces how hostile the lunar environment is. One cracked visor or failed life-support system is all that separates the astronaut from instant death.
There is no traditional combat in Deliver Us The Moon. Players will not be shooting aliens, fighting rogue colonists, or upgrading weapons. Danger comes from the environment, malfunctioning technology, limited oxygen, and later threats that are best avoided rather than confronted. This keeps the experience focused on investigation and survival instead of turning the Moon into another shooting gallery.
The lack of combat also allows the mystery to remain the main attraction. Discovering what happened to the colony is compelling because the game presents the events gradually and from multiple perspectives. Holographic recordings recreate important moments as ghostly figures, allowing players to witness arguments, emergencies, and difficult decisions after the fact. These scenes are more engaging than simply reading endless logs and help humanize people who are no longer present.
The story occasionally leans on familiar science-fiction ideas, but its execution is strong enough that this is rarely an issue. The personal struggles aboard the colony provide an intimate counterpoint to the enormous stakes on Earth. Saving humanity might be the mission objective, but much of the emotional weight comes from learning what the people on the Moon sacrificed, feared, and ultimately chose to do.
Deliver Us The Moon is a very linear experience. The lunar facilities can feel large, but players are usually guided along a clear route and cannot freely explore the Moon. The rover sections provide more open terrain, but even these exist primarily to carry players between important locations. Anyone expecting a lunar sandbox or a game about independently exploring the surface will be disappointed.
However, the focused structure suits the story. There is enough room to search for optional collectibles and pieces of information, but not so much that players are likely to become hopelessly lost. A completed playthrough generally takes only a handful of hours, depending on how thoroughly every area is searched. This makes the game relatively short, but it also ensures that the mechanics do not outstay their welcome.
Replay value is limited because much of the appeal comes from uncovering the mystery for the first time. Players can return for missed collectibles and Steam achievements, but knowing the puzzle solutions and story revelations removes some of the atmosphere. Deliver Us The Moon is better viewed as a tightly paced science-fiction experience than a game designed to be replayed indefinitely.
Visually, the game is frequently beautiful. The Unreal Engine-powered environments are packed with convincing machinery, reflective surfaces, control panels, cables, and small signs of the people who once lived there. The stations have the clean but functional appearance associated with grounded science fiction rather than the fantastical architecture of a space opera.
The lunar exterior is equally impressive. Driving across the grey surface beneath a black sky, with Earth hanging in the distance, creates some of the game’s most memorable scenes. There is a desolate beauty to the Moon, and the restrained color palette makes the occasional lights, holograms, and emergency warnings stand out.
The PC version also supports real-time ray-traced shadows and reflections on suitable hardware, along with DLSS. These effects are particularly well suited to the metallic interiors and glass surfaces found throughout the stations. They are not required to appreciate the art direction, but they can make the environments look even more convincing. Unfortunately, enabling ray tracing can cause performance issues in later portions of the game, even on powerful cards. The astronaut’s suit is nicely detailed, and the third-person animations do a good job of conveying differences between normal gravity, lunar gravity, and complete weightlessness.
The audio presentation is one of Deliver Us The Moon’s greatest strengths. The soundtrack knows when to swell during major set pieces and when to withdraw almost completely. Some of the most atmospheric sections are accompanied only by ventilation systems, distant machinery, radio interference, or the muffled sounds of the astronaut’s movements.
Sound is also used to emphasize isolation. The silence outside the stations feels vast, while the noises inside abandoned structures create the impression that the facility itself is still breathing. Voice acting in the recordings and holographic scenes is generally convincing and helps carry a story where the protagonist spends most of the game alone. The way that sound effects are muted in zero gravity is also a nice touch.
Controls are straightforward during regular exploration, although the zero-gravity movement and rover handling take some adjustment. The astronaut can walk, sprint, jump, interact with objects, and use a cutting laser for specific tasks. None of these mechanics are especially complicated, but the game combines them effectively during its set pieces.
Overall, Deliver Us The Moon is an atmospheric and memorable science-fiction adventure that understands the power of solitude. Its puzzles are not especially challenging, its path is highly linear, and the relatively short runtime limits replay value. However, the strong environmental storytelling, impressive lunar environments, varied set pieces, and compelling mystery make it easy to overlook these shortcomings.
The game’s greatest achievement is how convincingly it portrays a place abandoned in the middle of a crisis. Every silent corridor and empty workstation raises questions about the people who once occupied them. Deliver Us The Moon might not offer the freedom of a space simulator or the danger of a survival-horror game, but it captures the loneliness and vulnerability of space exploration better than many more ambitious titles.
