Eternal Anima Brings Time-Travel and Future-Sight Combat to PC and Consoles in March 2027

Eternal Anima, the time-travelling RPG previously teased under the working title PROJECT LIFE is RPG, will launch worldwide on March 4, 2027.

Developed by Marvelous Inc., the new IP is coming to PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. Its creators are positioning it as a love letter to the JRPGs of the late 1990s and early 2000s, combining a generation-spanning story with turn-based combat built around seeing—and changing—the future.

The story begins in Urvis Ael, a floating kingdom in a world swallowed by an endless sea. Its citizens live under the rule of a figure known as the Almighty, whose central law forbids progress. Hoping for a better future is treated as a capital offence.

After questioning that doctrine, protagonist Wade is branded a heretic and driven toward the Forbidden Seas. His journey eventually carries him through the past and present of four lost continents, where decisions made in one era can reshape conditions in another.

Time travel is also closely tied to character progression. Wade possesses a power called Psychometry, which lets him read memories embedded within objects. Those memories provide access to the classes and abilities of people from the past, and players will be able to combine what they inherit to create different combat builds.

The second defining system is Future Sight. During battles, players can see when enemies are expected to act and what the results of those actions will be. Commands can then be chosen to alter that predicted sequence—preparing for an incoming attack, delaying an opponent or striking first to cancel an action entirely.

That makes combat less about reacting after damage has been dealt and more about dismantling a visible chain of events. The game retains traditional command-based battles, but the ability to interfere with the forecast should give each turn a more tactical character.

The wider narrative similarly revolves around inheritance. Wade will meet ancestors and descendants across different periods, discovering how knowledge, abilities and unresolved choices pass between generations. Marvelous says actions in the past will affect the present, while allies can draw strength from those who came before them.

Eternal Anima is being created by several established Japanese RPG developers. Katsuhisa Higuchi serves as director, with Keisuke Makino responsible for the original story concept and Kazushige Nojima working as scenario writer. Nojima’s previous credits include major entries in the Final Fantasy series, while Higuchi has a long history with the Tales franchise.

Marvelous first teased the project in 2023 as PROJECT LIFE is RPG. The finished title was formally unveiled during the September 2026 Nintendo Direct, accompanied by an extended trailer showing Wade’s journey, the floating kingdom and the Future Sight battle system.

Physical editions have also been announced. A standard edition is planned for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2, while a physical limited edition will be available on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2. The latter includes a two-disc soundtrack, nine character art cards and an art book alongside the game. Digital edition details will be announced later.

With its time-altering combat, class inheritance and multi-era structure, Eternal Anima has more than nostalgia behind its pitch. The most promising part of the reveal is how consistently its story and mechanics return to the same idea: understanding what came before in order to create a different future.

Eternal Anima launches worldwide on March 4, 2027 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. It can be wishlisted on Steam, with additional information available from the official website.
