Hela: of Mice & Magic Gets December Release Date and New Story Trailer

If you’ve ever looked at an open-world adventure and thought it would be considerably better if you were several inches tall and covered in fur, Hela: of Mice & Magic might have you covered. Windup Games and Knights Peak have confirmed that the mouse-sized adventure will launch on December 1, 2026, with a new CGI story trailer offering another look at the world its tiny heroes will be exploring.

Hela: of Mice & Magic puts players in the paws of a small mouse familiar helping a kind witch who has cared for the surrounding land for generations. When she can no longer manage the task alone, her mice set out to lend a hand — or several very small paws — while exploring a world inspired by the landscapes of Northern Sweden. Forests, meadows, wetlands and burrows form part of the open world, with everyday objects becoming considerably more imposing when you’re roughly the size of someone’s lunch.

The mice aren’t entirely unequipped for the job. Each carries a magical Froggy Backpack that can be used to interact with the environment, reach new areas and help solve puzzles. Exploration is joined by ingredient gathering and potion brewing, while the game is deliberately built around cooperation rather than traditional combat. Players will be able to tackle the adventure solo, in local split-screen with another player, or online with up to four players. A Shade System also lets solo players create magical copies of themselves to handle challenges designed around multiple participants.

The newly released story trailer focuses on how the mice came to receive their magic in the first place. With the witch struggling to continue caring for the land on her own, she shares some of her power with the smallest creatures around her, setting the adventure in motion and explaining the origins of those distinctive backpacks. It is an appropriately gentle setup for a game that appears far more interested in exploration, curiosity and helping others than turning the local wildlife into experience points.

Alongside the digital release, Hela: of Mice & Magic will receive a physical Harmony Edition for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. The limited edition includes the game, a digital soundtrack composed by Frida Johansson and Henrik Oja, a 48-page softcover art book, an outerbox, a reversible poster featuring the game’s map and a set of stickers. Xbox Series S and PC will remain digital-only.

The standard digital version will launch on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. On PC, the Steam version is already available to wishlist ahead of release.
