Hungry Horrors Leaves Early Access on October 13 With More Folklore Creatures to Feed

Clumsy Bear Studio has announced that Hungry Horrors will leave Steam Early Access on 13 October 2026. The two-person studio’s folklore-inspired roguelite deckbuilder swaps swords for supper: to survive an encounter with a monster, you have to feed it before it reaches your princess.

Rather than dealing damage, players build decks of traditional British and Irish dishes and work out what each creature wants to eat. Meals carry one of five flavours, and serving the right tastes in sequence creates chains that help fill a Horror’s hunger meter. Getting the order wrong can turn the princess into the next meal. Seasonings, cookware, potions and artefacts offer ways to adapt a deck as a run unfolds.

The planned 1.0 version expands the game to eight biomes, 34 folkloric Horrors, 62 dishes and 13 legendary characters. Its bestiary draws on myths from across the British and Irish Isles, including the Dullahan, Jenny Greenteeth and Queen Mab. The full release also completes the campaign story and adds the Book of Taliesin progression system, through which players can carry unlocks between runs.

The campaign can be played in Vanilla or the more demanding Spicy mode, while a separate Banquet mode is designed for shorter, tougher roguelike runs. These additions give returning players more to explore beyond the Early Access version, which launched on 19 January 2026.

The cooking premise gives Hungry Horrors an unusual way to make folklore creatures feel like more than enemies to defeat: learning their tastes is as important as assembling a strong deck. Its pixel art, traditional recipes and sometimes gruesome failure animations give that idea a distinctly British and Irish flavour.

Hungry Horrors is available in Early Access on Steam now, where a free demo is also available. Version 1.0 is due on 13 October 2026.
