JYSTICE Brings Cybernetic Law Enforcement To Steam With A Free Demo

10tons has released a free Steam demo for JYSTICE, its cybernetic top-down shooter set in the crime-ridden megacity of Edenbyrg. The game is heading to Steam Early Access, with the demo also lined up for the upcoming Steam Next Fest.

JYSTICE puts players in charge of building and configuring their own heavily augmented enforcer. Cyberware, weapon modifications and companions shape how you approach each scenario, whether that means sneaking through the shadows, charging into trouble or keeping your distance with a rocket launcher.

Your main tool is the Gavel, a versatile weapon that can fire lead, lasers and electricity. Its modifications let you do more than simply increase damage: you can persuade enemies to join your side, smash through walls or knock opponents unconscious. Augmentations can also change your size, opening up further ways to tackle the city’s problems.

Edenbyrg’s scenarios include fortified bank robbers, a hostage crisis and rumours of a machine built specifically to destroy JYSTICEs. There are medals for unusual feats, such as finishing without firing a shot or remaining unseen, which unlock additional cyberware, weapon mods and other equipment.

The game supports shared-screen local co-op, as well as a local versus mode for two to four players. For those who prefer a solo challenge, the planned five-act campaign includes a Death Sentence difficulty with a limited supply of JYSTICEs.

For players who recognise Edenbyrg and the Gavel, there is a reason the setup sounds familiar. JYSTICE is an expanded successor to JYDGE, which we reviewed back in 2017. 10tons describes the replacement as sitting somewhere between a sequel and a remastered version.

According to the developer, a complaint about JYDGE was resolved amicably through an agreement to make changes, and the original game was subsequently removed from sale on all platforms. 10tons has not identified the complainant or explained the precise nature of the complaint.

JYSTICE is set to include 40% more missions, alongside altered versions of every mission from the original game. The developer also promises more fire modes, cyberware, special weapons, endings and secrets. Its five-act campaign expands on JYDGE’s four acts, while Death Sentence difficulty and the two-to-four-player local versus arenas add further challenges. Shared-screen local co-op returns from JYDGE rather than being a new addition.

10tons has not announced an Early Access release date yet. In the meantime, players can try the free demo and wishlist JYSTICE on Steam. You can watch the official trailer below for a look at its customisable brand of law enforcement.
