Nighthawks Vampire RPG Launches September 22 on Steam and GOG
Nighthawks, the long-awaited vampire role-playing game from writer Richard Cobbett and publisher Wadjet Eye Games, will launch on September 22, 2026 for PC, Mac and Linux through Steam and GOG.
The game begins six months after vampires have been exposed to the world. Players have already died, returned as one of the undead and travelled to a city offering vampires the possibility of a fresh start. What awaits is less welcoming: suspicion, paranoia and a society still trying to decide whether humans and vampires can share the same streets.
Rather than casting its vampires as distant monsters, Nighthawks follows two years of modern undead life and gives players room to determine what sort of creature they become. It is possible to resist predatory instincts or embrace them, while choices can steer the city towards cooperation or renewed fear.
The scale of the script is particularly striking. Wadjet Eye describes Nighthawks as an 800,000-plus-word role-playing adventure populated by more than 80 fully voiced characters. Exploration is constrained by the approaching sunrise, with each night offering stories, opportunities and decisions to pursue before daylight forces the city’s vampires out of sight.
Those choices extend to supernatural abilities. Mesmerism can be used to control the living, Natural Dominion turns animals into useful accomplices, and Tenebrous Form allows the player to dissolve into smoke. The broader journey promises a climb from the city’s margins towards enough power and influence to shape the future of its human and vampire populations.
Nighthawks is written by Richard Cobbett, whose previous credits include Failbetter Games’ Sunless Sea and Sunless Skies. Artwork comes from Ben Chandler, known for his work on Wadjet Eye titles including Unavowed and Old Skies, while Wadjet Eye founder Dave Gilbert serves as producer.
The project has travelled a long road to release. Nearly 4,000 Kickstarter backers pledged $136,128 towards its development, and the finished game has been built in Godot using ink, the narrative scripting language created by Inkle.
Its blend of horror and humour should be familiar territory for players who enjoy Wadjet Eye’s character-driven adventures, although the size and structure of Nighthawks place it firmly in role-playing territory. The newly released trailer provides a taste of its neon-soaked city, dialogue choices and sharply illustrated cast.
Nighthawks launches on September 22, 2026 for PC, Mac and Linux. It will be available through Steam and GOG.
