Signal Veil Turns A Haunted Cellphone Into A Survival Horror Lifeline
A haunted cellphone is at the centre of Signal Veil, a newly announced survival horror game from Chilean studio Time Hunters and Tokyo-based Serafini Productions. Combining fixed-camera exploration with a 90s anime-inspired look, the game is in development for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2.
Players follow Aki Mizuno, a teenage girl whose mother disappears without a trace, leaving behind an old cellphone with supernatural abilities. The device becomes her guide through Nishikawa High School, where further disappearances point towards a past concealed by hidden memories and silence.
The phone does more than deliver cryptic messages. Vibrations, unusual sounds and interference warn Aki when spirits or lingering memories are nearby. Its camera can reveal clues and supernatural traces invisible to the naked eye, while the flash helps expose or stun hostile entities.
Encounters are built around observing each spirit and working out how to make it vulnerable. Players must detect and provoke an entity, stun it, expose its essence and complete a ritual-like purge. The emphasis is on timing and careful preparation rather than simply attacking whatever emerges from the darkness.
That approach extends to resource management. Medicine and mystical weapons are limited, while Aki’s emotional stability is threatened by the school, its inhabitants and the traumatic events she encounters. As her mental state deteriorates, her perception of reality changes, affecting both the environments around her and the behaviour of enemies.
Preset camera angles draw on the traditions of Resident Evil and Silent Hill, restricting the player’s view and leaving room for threats beyond the frame. Signal Veil pairs that familiar survival horror structure with anime-styled characters and psychological storytelling focused on emotional wounds and buried memories.
The announcement trailer offers a first look at Aki and the haunted school. Serafini Productions, also known for the BrokenLore horror series, is publishing the game. Although Signal Veil has been revealed for multiple platforms, a release date has not yet been announced.
PC players can wishlist Signal Veil on Steam or the Epic Games Store. A PlayStation Store listing is also available. Watch the official announcement trailer below for a closer look at its supernatural school setting.
