80’s OVERDRIVE

80’s OVERDRIVE

80’s Overdrive harkens back to an era where neon colors, synth music, and fast cars were all the rage. Players can make their way through a 37 race Career Mode while purchasing new cars and upgrades along the way or hop into the Time Attack mode for a race against the clock. Unfortunately, the track editor is a little lacking, but tweaking all the variables does result in some interest tracks. While the game can be a bit of a grind and has its fair share of frustrating moments, it’s still a blast to play, and something fans of the genre will enjoy.

Gameplay: Race as fast as possible while dodging traffic, cops, and obstacles.

Graphics: The pixel art is vibrant and detailed, and there are plenty of track themes.

Sound: Sound effects are a little harsh, but the soundtrack is great

Agent Intercept

Agent Intercept

Agent Intercept is a thrill-a-minute action game that embraces every cliché of the spy genre. It makes for a very entertaining experience as you race around in a transforming vehicle while taking down enemies. Levels are short but action-packed, and while the campaign is short, there is plenty of additional content to keep players coming back for more. Don’t let the fact that this was originally a mobile title put you off; Agent Intercept is a blast to play on PC.

Gameplay: Easy to pick up and play, but hard to stop.

Graphics: The game looks great and has plenty of visual options to tweak.

Sound: The soundtrack and sound effects are brilliant

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit is a more pure arcade experience compared to some of the story-heavy entries in the series. Being able to pick which side of the law you want to play for each race also adds some longevity to the game. Thanks to the involvement of Criterion it feels closer to Burnout than Need for Speed at times, but this is not necessarily a bad thing. With a larger roster of exotic cars and some scenic locations to put them through their paces, there’s plenty of fun to be had with Hot Pursuit.

Gameplay: Pure petal to the metal racing in exotic cars.

Graphics: Still looks good, especially at higher resolutions.

Sound: Features a nice licensed soundtrack and good sound effects

Bus Simulator 18

Bus Simulator 18

Bus Simulator 18 walks a fine line between being a full-on simulator and offering an accessible experience for newcomers to the genre. It features a fairly sizable city, a number of licensed buses as well as the opportunity to not only drive your buses, but also manage your company and create new routes. A couple of areas of the game could still benefit from some improvements, but what is on offer is still very enjoyable, especially if you have a hankering for coasting around in a bus. A steering wheel is highly recommended for the most immersive experience and you need fairly beefy hardware to run the game properly, but overall we can definitely recommend it.

Gameplay: Create bus routes, drive them and make money while trying not to mess up.

Graphics: Plenty of good along with a couple of not so good.

Sound: Authentic sounds and decent music, but those chattering passengers become repetitive a little too soon
