Sound: Decent, but the realistic wind noises definitely add to the thrill

Pure

Pure

Pure is a very underrated game which is a pity as it actually has some solid gameplay and plenty of adrenaline fueled races. You can fly through it if you are not interested in multi-player or achievements, but overall it is a good game.

Gameplay: Fast and frantic with some insane tricks.

Graphics: Detailed environments with stunning vistas and plenty of effects.

Sound: The sound effects are ok, but the voices can become a tad annoying

TOCA Race Driver 2

TOCA Race Driver 2

A huge, challenging game with hours of gameplay, but watch out as this is by no means an easy title to complete. All in all a very impressive console port that lost nothing in the translation to handheld.

Gameplay: Infuriatingly tough at times, but you’ll keep coming back to it.

Graphics: Pretty good for a handheld.

Sound: Solid voice overs and good sound effects

Smuggler’s Run

Smuggler’s Run

If you enjoy racing through bland environments in twitchy cars while your ears are assaulted by a never ending cacophony of bad voice acting and screeching sirens then Smuggler’s Run is the game for you. If not, stay far, far away.

Gameplay: Might have been fun once upon a time but not anymore.

Graphics: Bad even by PS2 standards.

Sound: Don’t inflict this on your ears

Konami Krazy Racers

Konami Krazy Racers

While Nintendo seems content with rehashing all their old SNES titles at least Konami has tried something fresh here. Krazy Racers is a fun and frantic racers starring some of Konami’s best known characters. A must have title for Konami fans and racing fans alike.

Gameplay: Fun and addictive, but over a bit too soon.

Graphics: Cool characters and impressive levels.

Sound: Konami has yet to disappoint in this category

Distance

Distance

Distance spent a long time in Early Access, but this has resulted in an addictive arcade racer that is as polished as it is entertaining. The game not only features a unique racing meets platformer style, but it is also brimming with content. With three short campaigns, an arcade section with multiple tracks and modes, multiplayer and even track editor with Steam Workshop integration means you’ll be coming back to this one again and again. It also features something that we wish more games would do in the form of actual in-game rewards for obtaining certain Steam Achievements. If you are a fan of arcade racers, then this one is not to be missed.

Gameplay: Extremely addictive and the game feature a ton of content to keep you busy.

Graphics: Stylish and sleek along with plenty of visual variety.

Sound: The soundtrack as well as sound effects are top notch

All-Star Fruit Racing (3DClouds)

All-Star Fruit Racing (3DClouds)

From Nintendo and Sony to Sega and Konami, there was a time where every developer with a semi decent roster of recognizable characters felt the need to shoehorn their mascots into a kart racing game. Some were good, some not, but the most memorable ones were usually the games featuring well-known characters. 3DClouds, an Italian indie developer doesn’t have the luxury of banking on familiar faces for their title, All-Star Fruit Racing, as it is their debut title. However, this doesn’t mean that the game isn’t worth a closer look as even though it is still an Early Access title, it already impresses

Crashday Redline Edition

Crashday Redline Edition

This re-release of the 2006 original packs a whole host of new features and improvements, which is sure to please fans. In addition to a plethora of content, this Redline Edition also has full Steam Workshop support, which has already paid off in the form of hundreds of new mods for the game. Whether you have fond memories of the original or simply want a racing game that offers speed, destruction and stunts, Crashday: Redline Edition deserves a closer look.

Gameplay: Tons of different modes and the ability to get on the track without having to waste hours tweaking your ride.

Graphics: An improvement over the original, but not quite up to the high standard of modern games.

Sound: The soundtrack is a mix of old and new, but the sound effects could have been better
