Starlight: Eye of the Storm

Starlight: Eye of the Storm

Starlight: Eye of the Storm is a polished and enjoyable 2D bullet-hell shooter with arcade, campaign, and PVP modes. The ability to create your own custom ships and the wide range of weapons gives the game a lot of replay value along with multiple difficulty settings that also make it very accessible. The story is perhaps not the game’s strong suit, but the all-out action is hard to fault.

Gameplay: Very addictive and has multiple modes to keep players coming back for more.

Graphics: A nice combination of 2D and 3D, along with plenty of bullets and explosions.

Sound: The soundtrack isn’t too over the top, but the sound effects pack a lot of punch

Radio Viscera

Radio Viscera

Radio Viscera is a top-down shooter where you wield an air cannon instead of a traditional gun. However, this doesn’t make your character any less lethal as the levels are littered with traps in which you can knock your foes. The result is a bloody and over-the-top game with wacky physics and plenty of action. It is the work of a solo developer, so there are a few rough edges here and there, but overall the game is a lot of fun.

Gameplay: Dodge enemies while shooting them into traps with your air cannon.

Graphics: The game looks decent but not spectacular.

Sound: The sound effects and music are all great

The result is chaotic and bloody physics-based fun as enemies get shot into all kinds of deadly traps and machinery. Check out the first look video below to see the game in action

Tesla Force

Tesla Force

Tesla Force builds on all the elements that made Tesla Vs Lovecraft so great but adds a ton of rogue-lite features. The result is a game that is more polished, more varied, and more addictive than the original. Luck still plays an important role in the game and it can become a little repetitive, but overall it is a solid title that is very entertaining.

Gameplay: Non-stop shooting action along with some strategic choices to make.

Graphics: Similar to the original game, but also has plenty of enhancements.

Sound: Great soundtrack and sound effects

Splatter – Zombiecalypse Now

Splatter – Zombiecalypse Now

Splatter – Zombiecalypse Now is a film-noir style top-down shooter starring a trench-coat and fedora-wearing protagonist on a quest to kill lots of zombies. The game doesn’t skimp on the blood and gore but can become slightly repetitive. However, there’s plenty of guns, enemies, and destructible environments to make sure that there’s never a dull moment. If you are a fan of the genre, then this game should keep you interested to the end.

Gameplay: Hordes of monsters to kill and plenty of different environments.

Graphics: Lots of blood and gore.

Sound: The voice acting is a bit ropey, but everything else sounds good

Dead End Job

Dead End Job

Dead End Job is a twin-stick shooter where players take control of Hector Plasm, a ghost exterminator on a mission to save his mentor’s soul. To accomplish this Hector will need a lot of cash, but luckily there is no shortage of people willing to pay him to shoot ghosts with his plasma blaster before sucking up the pesky spirits in a vacuum pack. The procedurally generated levels in this game span several distinct districts and the game is a lot of fun. Dying means losing all your perks, which sucks and the co-op is a bit of a letdown due to the limitations of the secondary character, but overall Dead End Job has a lot to offer.

Gameplay: Shoot ghosts to stun them, then suck them up in a vacuum pack.

Graphics: Very colorful and there’s a wide range of different ghosts types to encounter.

Sound: The soundtrack fits the style of the game perfectly and there’s even a neat intro theme song

Gatling Gears

Gatling Gears

Play as Max Brawley and take on the evil Empire from the cockpit of your Gatling Gear in this top down shooter by Vanguard Games. It features vibrant visuals, tons of explosions and plenty of action. Since the game pretty much only consists of shooting everything in sight, it can become a little repetitive, but blowing things up remains satisfying and with three difficulty levels, you can challenge yourself no matter what your skill level is. It’s not the most memorable or impressive title in the genre, but it is very solid and very enjoyable.

Gameplay: Blowing up everything in sight stays a blast right throughout.

Graphics: The levels are varied and packed with detail.

Sound: So-so music, but the sound effects are really good

The Hong Kong Massacre

The Hong Kong Massacre

The Hong Kong Massacre is a top down shooter with an addictive blend of all out action, slow motion dives and bloody destruction. It will receive a lot of comparisons to Hotline Miami and Max Payne, but the addictive gameplay and John Woo elements ensures that it makes its own mark on the genre. The cut-scenes could be a little better and the game lacks some polish here and there, but overall it is a great shooter that has plenty of thrills to offer for those who are up to the challenge.

Gameplay: Challenging and unforgiving, but very addictive and rewarding.

Graphics: Plenty of blood and destructible scenery along with some interesting locations.

Sound: No voice acting, but the soundtrack and sound effects are good
