Tama In-Between Brings Slime-Cat Puzzle Platforming to PC October 29

Tama In-Between, a pixel-art action puzzler starring a shape-shifting slime cat, will launch for PC on October 29, 2026. Developer Masagomi Studio and publisher Fruitbat Factory have also announced that a Nintendo Switch version is planned for 2027.

The adventure follows Tama, a mysterious slime cat living with its friends at Kedama House in a world long after humanity has disappeared. When a sinister disembodied Hand abducts the other residents, Tama follows a butterfly into a strange fantasy world in search of them.

Each self-contained stage combines platforming with a puzzle built around three connected abilities: Absorb, Split and Possess.

Tama can absorb slimes found throughout a stage, growing larger in the process. A larger body can then be divided into more clones, giving players additional pieces with which to manipulate the environment.

Splitting leaves a clone behind. These copies can hold down switches, but the force created by splitting can also launch Tama across otherwise impassable gaps. Players therefore need to consider both where a clone will land and what happens to the original body when it is created.

Possess completes the system by allowing Tama’s soul to move into a distant clone. A carefully positioned copy can effectively become a new starting point elsewhere in the room, letting players operate mechanisms or continue through spaces that the original body could not reach.

Stages introduce moving and disappearing platforms, gusts of wind, locked doors and other environmental devices. Although there may be one intended destination, the three abilities are designed to encourage experimentation while players work out how the pieces of each room interact.

The combination was inspired by classic single-screen puzzle games including Lode Runner, Solomon’s Key and the Game Boy version of Donkey Kong. Masagomi Studio also cites Celeste as an influence on the process of repeatedly studying and attempting a challenge until its solution becomes clear.

According to the developer, Tama itself grew from the familiar observation that “cats are liquid.” That idea developed into a character able to change size, separate into multiple bodies and transfer its consciousness between them.

The game is being created by the three-person Japanese indie team Masagomi Studio. Artist Mocoriinya designed Tama and the other characters, while Fruitbat Factory is handling publishing and the English release.

Despite its international release, Tama In-Between is designed to require no reading during play. Its mechanics and visual communication are intended to make the stages accessible regardless of language. The Steam listing consequently includes interface support for more than 100 languages.

The new release date announcement is accompanied by confirmation of a $8.99 launch price. A free Steam demo is already available for anyone wanting to test Tama’s unusual abilities before the full release.

Tama In-Between will launch for Windows and macOS through Steam on October 29, 2026. The Nintendo Switch version is scheduled to follow in 2027, although a precise console date has not yet been announced.
