Zozo and the Lost Dreams Brings Saturday Morning Cartoon Chaos to TGS 2026

Zozo and the Lost Dreams is bringing some Saturday-morning-cartoon energy to Tokyo Game Show 2026 with a new trailer and a playable appearance at the event.

The colourful 2D Metroidvania platformer is being developed by Red Dunes Games and Indonesian studio Agate, with a release currently planned for 2027.

Its story follows Zozo, a 13-year-old boy determined to become a superhero. With help from his eccentric scientist neighbour, Professor Aisha, he gains access to a machine capable of transporting him directly into his dreams.

What begins as a chance to live out his superhero fantasies quickly becomes a real problem when a mysterious incident leaves Zozo unable to wake up.

Finding a way home means travelling through a succession of unpredictable dream worlds, each built around its own theme, characters, enemies and challenges.

The settings embrace the freedom of dream logic. Zozo may find himself pillow-fighting sentient pastries, training under an octopus master or exploring a cybernetic jungle filled with hostile computer bugs.

Although the presentation is deliberately playful, a familiar Metroidvania structure sits underneath it. New abilities open previously inaccessible routes, encouraging players to revisit earlier dream worlds to uncover secrets and piece together the larger story.

Platforming, puzzles, exploration and combat all form part of the adventure, with acrobatic movement helping Zozo navigate the game’s handcrafted environments.

Combat has an appropriately cartoonish twist of its own. Attacks can knock enemies backwards into other foes, potentially creating chain reactions that the developers compare to pinball or bowling.

That mechanic places extra value on positioning. A well-aimed hit may turn one enemy into a projectile and send several others tumbling in the resulting collision.

Visually, Zozo and the Lost Dreams combines pixel-art characters with rasterised environments. The intention is to retain the exaggerated charm of older cartoons while presenting its dream worlds with a more contemporary finish.

The cartoon inspiration also shapes the way the story is organised. Each dream is designed to work like a self-contained episode with its own adventure and theme, while still building towards a larger finale.

Opening and ending theme songs reinforce the idea that players are stepping into an animated series rather than merely watching one.

Zozo will meet an assortment of unusual dream-dwellers during his journey, helping them with their problems and gradually uncovering a wider threat to the dreams themselves.

The newly released trailer highlights several of these environments along with Zozo’s movement, combat and ability-driven exploration.

Zozo and the Lost Dreams is playable at Tokyo Game Show 2026 in Hall 7 at the Red Dunes Games booth. A free PC demo is also currently available through Steam.

The game is planned for release in 2027. The announcement describes a broader all-platform launch, while its current Steam listing confirms the PC version and a playable demo.
