The Wolfpack DLC adds two brand new heists to the game along with a brand new class, the technician. The new heists offer a lot of fun, but are also challenging enough to keep veterans on their toes. The new class also comes with their own new weapons and gadgets, including a grenade launcher and sentry gun, which is pretty impressive. All in all, there’s no reason not to grab this DLC if you are a fan of the game, although the developers have generously included the option to invite friends to the new heists if you own the DLC and they don’t.

Gameplay: Two brand new heists, a brand new class and some new weaponry.

Graphics: Still the same as the base game.

Sound: Not much has changed compared to the base game

PAYDAY™ The Heist: Wolfpack DLC

Developer: OVERKILL Software | Publisher: Daybreak Game Company | Release Date: 2012 | Genre: DLC / First Person Shooter / Co-op | Website: Official Website | Purchase: Steam

It’s no secret that we quite enjoyed our time with Payday: The Heist, despite it not being the most polished or fair game on the market. The co-op gameplay had us hooked and the seven heists on offer provided plenty of variety along with some nice replay value. Wolfpack is the first, and only, downloadable content pack for the game, so let’s take a look whether or not it is worth it.

Payday had a number of free updates that not only improved the game in a number of ways, but also added additional content, such as new masks and even a brand new level. Wolfpack is not free, but it does have a lot to offer Payday veterans who are yearning for a bigger challenge and some fresh heists. Unfortunately, Wolfpack only adds two more heists to the game, but both of them are very unique. The first is “Counterfeit”, which is a secret operation in the Sunshine State where your crew dress up as workers in order to infiltrate a neighborhood where counterfeit money is being printed. The heist is fairly straightforward, but since it is set in a sunny neighborhood, there’s not a lot of space to run and hide when the cops inevitably gatecrash the party. However, it is the second new heist, Undercover, which is our favorite. Here the gang sets up shop in an abandoned apartment complex in order to kidnap someone working for the IRS and force him to transfer some money. It’s an elaborate setup that involves lifting his limousine to the roof of the building, cutting him out of it and then hacking the server that he is carrying on him. It’s an extremely tough mission thanks to the narrow hallways and stairwells of the building as well as the multitude of snipers who camp out on nearby buildings. Players are given the opportunity to scavenge wood, which can be used to board up windows and vents, but completing the mission unscathed requires plenty of luck and skill.

In addition to the two brand new heists, Wolfpack also adds a whole new class to the game. It is called the technician and along with new weapons, such as the STRYK full auto pistol, AK and GL40 grenade launcher, this class also has some new tricks up their sleeve. The most exciting one is the sentry gun, which is just as cool as it sounds. Sentry guns don’t have unlimited armor or bullets, but setting them up in a strategic spot can be a life-saver.

The technician class also comes with the tool kit player upgrade, so that they can interact faster with all those pesky mission objects in the game. Of course, along with the new specialty there is also a new level cap, so players can increase their reputation all the way up to 193 now.

Although the Wolfpack DLC is not going to sway the opinion of players who didn’t like the base game, it is a great addition for existing fans. The two new heists offer a lot of fun and they are different enough from the ones that are already in the game. Even better, if you own the DLC you can invite your friends to play with you on them even if they do not own the DLC themselves. The Wolfpack DLC also adds six new challenging Steam achievements to the game, but you are really going to have to prove your mettle in order to earn them.

All things considered, the Wolfpack DLC is a must-have if you have already sunk a lot of hours into the game and want to keep going. It’s a pity that it only features two new heists as we would have loved to see more, but both Undercover and Counterfeit fits in nicely with the existing heists. The new technician specialty is also pretty cool, especially the turret. Unfortunately, there are no new weapons or upgrades for the existing classes, so if you don’t care much for the technician specialty, then you can stick to playing with friends who own the DLC and don’t mind inviting you to the new heists. For the rest, the game still looks and plays exactly like it always has, so check out our review to find out what to expect if you are a newcomer to the world of Payday: The Heist.

Test Drive Unlimited 2

Test Drive Unlimited 2

Test Drive Unlimited 2 is one of those games that start off great but the longer you play it the more the faults become apparent. There are plenty of challenges and races but in the end you are just repeating the same things over and over. The online aspect is nice and overall the game is good but it is certainly not going to appeal to everyone. Gameplay: A huge gameworld with plenty to see and do but very repetitive. Graphics: Lots of rough edges but the scale is admirable. Sound: Terrible radio stations and annoying voice overs.

Jets’n’Guns Gold

Jets'n'Guns Gold

Despite not being a new release Jets'n'Guns Gold is still able to go toe to toe with newer titles. The action is relentless and the sheer amount of enemies and levels is quite amazing considering the low price tag. This is not an easy game, but persevere and it will have you hooked for hours. Gameplay: Old school side scrolling shooter done right. Graphics: Colourful and chaotic. Sound: Energetic soundtrack with plenty of sound effects to back up the action.

Plantera

Plantera

Plantera is a very straightforward game with simple but addictive mechanics. You grow your garden, harvest crops, and sell them to repeat the cycle. It is a casual clicker title with plenty of things to click, but you can also kick back and leave it to its own devices. If you are not a fan of clicker titles, it can become repetitive, but considering its price, it is hard to fault. Gameplay: Plantera is very straightforward to play and features more variety than typical clicker games. Graphics: The visuals are bright, colorful, and quite charming. Sound: The audio is nice, but could have benefited from a few more tunes.

FixFox

FixFox

FixFox is a unique game that combines many different gameplay styles with a surprisingly deep storyline. Exploring the various areas while looting stashes is fun and using unorthodox tools to repair machines never gets old. Unfortunately, the game lacks any real challenges, and having to perform the same actions in new areas does become repetitive towards the end. Nevertheless, FixFox is an ambitious title considering a very small team made it, and this passion can be seen everywhere in the game. Gameplay: Despite some repetition, FixFox combines many different gameplay elements with a wholesome story that will keep players coming back for more. Graphics: The art style can be a bit of an acquired taste, but there's no denying the amount of detail packed into each aspect of the visuals. Sound: The chiptune soundtrack is very catchy and features unique music for each new area in the game.

Nightmares from the Deep: The Cursed Heart

Nightmares from the Deep: The Cursed Heart

Rescue your daughter from the clutches of an undead pirate in this enjoyable hidden object game. Or, if hidden object hunting is not your thing, do so instead by playing a couple of solo Mahjong rounds. The Cursed Heart features an interesting storyline, great locations and plenty of puzzles to solve. The only thing holding it back is the low resolution cut-scenes and less than stellar voice acting. Gameplay: Rather easy, but very enjoyable. Graphics: The locations look great, but the cut-scenes plays at a very low resolution. Sound: Nice music and sound effects, but the voice acting could have been better.

Home Run Solitaire

Home Run Solitaire

Home Run Solitaire is a baseball themed take on the genre that knocks it out of the park with its polished presentation and addictive gameplay. You don’t have to be a fan of the sport to have fun either as the game is packed with 180 “innings” of Solitaire and a handful of mini-games. With a fully voiced story mode as well as the option to play Freeplay, TriPeaks or Five Peaks, Home Run Solitaire definitely doesn’t drop the ball. The Revills Games have a good reputation when it comes to Solitaire games and this one does nothing to break that streak. Gameplay: Still addictive and has enough content to keep you busy for ages. Graphics: The baseball theme is nice and colorful. Sound: Good voice acting, great sound effects and some nice mellow tunes.
