Platformers are one of the most enduring genres out there and there is always room for one more if it is done well. Last Soul, an upcoming 2D pixel-art platformer by Wulum is already shaping up to be something special. While the planned release date is set for Spring 2022, there is a free prologue available on Steam featuring two levels. The first level serves as a tutorial where players are introduced to some of the skills available to the robotic protagonist, Bop. After that, players are thrown into a tense boss fight where they get to put these skills to the test

New Game Announced By Nerdook

New Game Announced By Nerdook

Ever since we discovered the delightful games by one-man development team Nerdook a few years ago we’ve been hooked. There’s just something about Nerdook titles that allows you to instantly jump in and have fun. It also helps that the games are usually packed with procedural content that keeps you coming back for more too. From Vertical Drop Heroes HD all the way back in 2014, to Reverse Crawl in 2015, and Monster Slayers in 2017 there hasn’t been a disappointing release by Nerdook. This is why we are quite excited by the recent announcement that a brand new Nerdook title will be coming out later this year

Mythic Ocean (Paralune LLC)

Mythic Ocean (Paralune LLC)

It’s not every day that you get to swim around a tranquil underwater kingdom and interact with a pantheon of gods, but that’s precisely what is in store for players of Mythic Ocean. The game is set to release sometime later this year, but the developers, Paralune was kind enough to provide us with a demo to check out in the meantime. They describe Mythic Ocean as a narrative exploration game, which is pretty apt as there is no combat or death to worry about in this title. Instead, you can take your time to explore your surroundings and chat with the goofy cast of characters that inhabit it

The Beast Inside (Illusion Ray Studio)

The Beast Inside (Illusion Ray Studio)

From Resident Evil 2 to Pathologic 2, 2019 has been no stranger to horror games so far. We’ve seen plenty of good ones, a few that haven’t lived up to expectations and even a couple that took us by surprise. Then, PlayWay S.A. contacted us with a short beta version of the upcoming Illusion Ray Studio title, The Beast Inside. It is only one of the thirteen chapters from the full game, but what we experienced was already more than enough to convince us that The Beast Inside is going to be a stellar title

Everreach: Project Eden (Elder Games)

2019 has been a great year for games and in addition to the titles that has already been released there are still a lot of upcoming ones to be excited about. September in particular looks like it is going to be leaving gamers with no spare time for anything else. However, one game that definitely should not be overlooked this September is Everreach: Project Eden by Elder Games. For those unfamiliar with Elder Games, it is an independent game development team that was founded by Ede Tarsoly and they have been around since 2007. Ede also handled most of the projects, along with external freelancers, up until 2016. It was after this that things changed, thanks to Everreach, which is their most ambitious title to date. Thanks to the size and scope of the game, the core team at Elder Games grew to five people and over a dozen external freelancers were also brought in to bring this ambitious title to life

Lode Runner Legacy (Tozai Games, Inc.)

From Donkey Kong and Dig Dug to Gauntlet and Gradius, the 1980s were a golden era for classic video-game franchises. One of these franchises is Lode Runner, which was first released for the Apple II in 1983 and quickly moved on to other platforms. Its action-packed, yet puzzle-oriented gameplay made it an instant hit and even people like Alexey Pajitnov counted it amongst their favorite puzzle titles. Although there hasn’t been a shortage of new releases over the years, the last appearance of Lode Runner was back in 2012 on Android and iOS. Thankfully, this is about to change with the upcoming release of Lode Runner Legacy for PC

Nelly Cootalot: Spoonbeaks Ahoy! HD (Application Systems London Ltd.)

Fans of Point & Click Adventure games will know that we reviewed the pirate themed Nelly Cootalot: The Fowl Fleet a while back, awarding it a well-deserved 8.3/10. It is a charming and humorous take on the genre, starring a feisty pirate heroine. What many players might not know is that The Fowl Fleet actually had a freeware prequel, titled Spoonbeaks Ahoy! While Spoonbeaks Ahoy! can still be enjoyed in its original low resolution format, the success of The Fowl Fleet has meant that fans can soon enjoy a remastered high definition version of the game
