Century: Age of Ashes Holds Second Closed Beta

Century: Age of Ashes Holds Second Closed Beta

The Game of Thrones television series is a thing of the past, but that doesn’t mean we’ve had enough of giant firebreathing dragons. Thankfully, Playwing is working hard on correcting this imbalance with their upcoming Century: Age of Ashes. The game allows players to become legendary dragon riders and take to the skies for some team-based shooting. Century: Age of Ashes will be free-to-play and Playwing promises that the only thing that is going to separate the victors from the fallen will be skill.

Century: Age of Ashes already had a very successful initial test which allowed Playwing to address all the feedback that they have received from players. This has resulted in a lot of new quality of life features, including a rebalanced progression system, new matchmaking, and game modes as well as improved controls. They have also added a new free-flight system so that new players can get a better feel of the flight and combat before having to face human opponents in battle.

The second closed beta is set to run from March 12 to 21st and the good news for all participants is that all player progress will carry over to the Early Access launch version in April. This includes experience, earned currency as well as unlockables. For the second closed beta, Playwing is also drastically increasing the player limit to properly test the servers. Pascal Barret, Playwing Bordeaux Art Director, and Studio Manager expressed his excitement about the Early Access launch in April. He also stated that the positive response from the first closed beta prompted them to open up the game to more dragon riding fans for the second.

Although the cosmetic store in Century: Age of Ashes will be open during the closed beta, it will only allow players to spend earned currency. So, while players will be able to get dragon skins, hatchable eggs, armor, weapons, and other items there will be no option to use real-world currency to do so during the closed beta. Check out the list of changes and improvements players can expect during the second closed beta below. We also recommend giving the new gameplay trailer a watch as it delves into the different classes and game modes.

Matchmaking & Game modes
  • Adding a MMR system to the queue to improve match balance and put same level players into the same games
  • ROOKIE mode will be only accessible until level 10
  • Adding a SKIRMISH mode: a best of 5, 3v3 game mode, that will replace the ROOKIE mode for level 10 players and above. All the controls will be available at the start of the first round.
  • A FREE FLIGHT mode will be available. You’ll be able to familiarize yourself with the Dragon’s controls and play against an enemy bot.
Gates of Fire
  • Changed the number of rounds to best of 3 and added an extra 4th round in case of a draw, in order to avoid a xp draw exploit
  • Reviewing the sound design in order to make the game mode more epic
  • Improved the balancing by adding more spawn placements for the flag
  • General UI/FX  improvements to make the objectives clearer
Other Improvements
  • Adding a penalty system for players who leave rounds early
  • The shop will be open! You’ll be able to spend your earned currencies, but won’t be able to pay with real money
  • Leaderboard will be available
  • Global ping improvement
  • Improved Mouse / Keyboard controls
  • General sound design improvements to improve the sensation when players hit an enemy
  • The progression system has been rebalanced. We want the level up system to feel more of an accomplishment
