2019 has been a great year for games and in addition to the titles that has already been released there are still a lot of upcoming ones to be excited about. September in particular looks like it is going to be leaving gamers with no spare time for anything else. However, one game that definitely should not be overlooked this September is Everreach: Project Eden by Elder Games. For those unfamiliar with Elder Games, it is an independent game development team that was founded by Ede Tarsoly and they have been around since 2007. Ede also handled most of the projects, along with external freelancers, up until 2016. It was after this that things changed, thanks to Everreach, which is their most ambitious title to date. Thanks to the size and scope of the game, the core team at Elder Games grew to five people and over a dozen external freelancers were also brought in to bring this ambitious title to life.

Although the team is still small compared to the amount of people employed by the AAA industry, the result of their hard work is impressive to say the least. Everreach has been in development for three years and a brand new reveal trailer has just been released to showcase what fans can expect. Everreach: Project Eden is a story-driven 3rd person action RPG, that is set on the visually stunning Planet Eden. Players will take control of the protagonist, Nora Hardwood, who is a member of the Everreach Security Division. It would seem that mysterious incidents have been taking place on the planet and Nora is tasked with securing the colonization process of Eden while figuring out what is going on. This means players will get to explore the vast alien world of Eden where there are some ancient secrets buried in the depths. Everreach promises intense shooter action, along with a compelling level and skill system that will keep players hooked. Along with the tactical ground combat, the game will also feature some thrilling high-speed vehicular warfare thanks to Nora’s hoverbike.

There are a couple of reasons that we are very excited about Everreach: Project Eden and it is quite obvious that Elder Games pulled out all the stops for this game. The game boasts an impressive list of external contributors, such as Mai-Anh Tran, a talented artist with credits that include work on the WarCraft and Star Trek: Beyond movies. She worked as co-designer for the beautiful vistas of Planet Eden, so go check out her portfolio on ArtStation to see some of her jaw-dropping art. The former narrative QA and game writer for the Mass Effect trilogy, Michelle Clough, helped with the story of Everreach, while the game also boasts the vocal talents of D. C. Douglas who played “Legion” in Mass Effect 2 and “Wesker” in Resident Evil.

We are definitely counting down the days until September when the game will be released on PC as well as Xbox One. A Playstation 4 version will be released later in this year. Check out the reveal trailer for the game below and don’t forget to add it to your wishlist on Steam.

Rebel Galaxy (Double Damage Games)

After being given the opportunity to check out a preview build of the upcoming Rebel Galaxy by Double Damage Games I jumped at the chance as I loved the premise of the game. However, even I was surprised by how well the developers pulled off their take on the whole swashbuckling space adventure genre. My love for the genre stretches back to Star Control II, Frontier and Privateer, but after a couple of hours with Rebel Galaxy I have no doubt that it will be joining the ranks of those titles.

Poncho (Delve Interactive)

Just like any 2D platform game with a shadow motif will probably be compared to Limbo for the foreseeable future, PONCHO is inevitable going to draw comparisons to Fez. From the title and vibrant pixel art visuals to the chiptune soundtrack and world shifting gameplay mechanics there are plenty of similarities. However, we spent some time playing this parallax platformer and it definitely has a unique identity of its own.

The Old City: Leviathan

The Old City: Leviathan

As the protagonist of The Old City: Leviathan kept addressing his claustrophobic surroundings as if it was a living entity I was convinced that he was mad. Not that I could blame him really. Described as a “sewer dwelling isolationist” who is making his way through the bleak environments of a decaying city, it is hard not to feel sorry for the nameless protagonist. You might view the world through his eyes and direct his movement, but you are certainly not playing “as” him. I was intrigued by his musings, but certain that he was mad, until the city answered.
