Fans of adventure, exploration and combat should take note of the upcoming Double Damage Games space epic, Rebel Galaxy. It is the debut title for the studio and gives players command of a powerful star cruiser. Players are then let loose upon a massive, randomly generated galaxy to explore. Of course, there will be plenty of danger and mystery to be found in order to keep things interesting.

According to the co-founder of Double Damage Games, Travis Baldree, they have been hard at work on Rebel Galaxy since the announcement of the studio. According to him it is a game that everyone involved has wanted to make for a long time.

The game will feature pirates to battle, anomalies to explore, aliens to befriend, battle wreckage to scavenge, asteroids to mine, artifacts to discover and everything else you would expect from a good swashbuckling space opera. Your path is in your own hands, so you can choose to be a power-hungry privateer, roguish do-gooder or crafty space-trader. The credits you earn provides access to larger and more powerful craft which can also be outfitted with a nice selection of weapons and defenses.

Although you are in control of an enormous destroyer, Rebel Galaxy is not a strategy game and wants you to experience the action up close and personal. You’ll be able to control individual turrets on your ship instead of simply sitting back and issuing orders. You won’t have to get your hands dirty if you don’t want to though. Mercenaries, custom AI stances and some diplomacy can also get you out of a scrap.

Rebel Galaxy is scheduled for release on Steam and PS4 in 2014, so keep an eye on the official site for more information. In the meantime you can feast your eyes on the screenshots and announcement trailer below.

Don't Be Patchman by Naturally Intelligent

After receiving an email from Naturally Intelligent urging me to not be a Patchman, I had no choice but to check out why this character has such a bad rep. It turns out that Patchman used his celebrity status to help a drone army enslave the Sheeple, normally happy folk who used to live in harmony with nature. Through a bizarre series of events, Patchman dies after eating a vending machine, but is brought back to life by a kind old granny who sewed him back together. Now it will be up to you to help Patchman redeem himself and rescue the Sheeple from the Drone army.

Strategy fans can look forward to The Bot Squad: Puzzle Battles hitting the App Store and Google Play on October 16 2014. This new free-to-play strategy game from Ubisoft promises a mix of classic Puzzle and Tower Defense gameplay. Both genres have traditionally fared well on smartphones and tablets, but it is not often that they are combined.

Mythic Ocean (Paralune LLC)

It's not every day that you get to swim around a tranquil underwater kingdom and interact with a pantheon of gods, but that's precisely what is in store for players of Mythic Ocean. The game is set to release sometime later this year, but the developers, Paralune was kind enough to provide us with a demo to check out in the meantime. They describe Mythic Ocean as a narrative exploration game, which is pretty apt as there is no combat or death to worry about in this title. Instead, you can take your time to explore your surroundings and chat with the goofy cast of characters that inhabit it.
