Our first encounter with BeautiFun Games was a few years ago when we had the pleasure of playing the beautiful and fun puzzle/platform adventure, Nihilumbra. They branched out into the RPG and strategy genre with Megamagic: Wizards of the Neon Age, but puzzle fans are once again in for a treat with their upcoming release. It is titled Professor Lupo and his Horrible Pets and can only be described as a seriously hilarious puzzle adventure. We have already spent some time with the game and can confirm that it not only features plenty of brilliant puzzles, but also a strong focus on narrative.

Professor Lupo and his Horrible Pets is set to launch on both Steam and the Nintendo Switch on July 11th, 2019. Players are handed control of the Professor’s personal intern, who have to deal with a space station full of adorable looking, but extremely deadly monsters. The setting for the adventure is the Aurora Space Station, which is in a state of chaos after a series of catastrophes caused the monsters to escape confinement. This means that the hapless intern has to deal with 100 levels that are filled with puzzle gameplay mechanics if he wants to survive and outwit the monsters.

Professor Lupo and his Horrible Pets is the result of more than two and a half years of hard work from the team, but it definitely features all the trademark BeautiFun elements, such as unique visuals and interesting gameplay. The team also made sure to embrace every form of control available to both systems. This means that Switch owners can make use of the portable, tabletop and TV modes offered by the console, and play with the joycons, gamepads, and tactile screen. The Steam version is fully compatible with the Steam controller, but can also be played with keyboard controls or pointing and clicking with a mouse.

There is still some time left before the release of the game on the 11th, but fans can already try out the free demo, which is available on both the Nintendo eShop as well as Steam. Switch owners can also take advantage of the 15% pre-purchase discount that will be available until the release date. We will be taking an in-depth look at Professor Lupo and his Horrible Pets when it is officially released and have a chat with BeautiFun about the creation of this unique title. In the meantime, check out the announcement trailer below, try out the free demo and be sure to add the game to your wishlist if you are a fan of puzzle titles.

I Am Bread

As if creating one of the most maddeningly entertaining surgical “simulation” titles we’ve ever played wasn’t enough, the fine folks over at Bossa Studios have now turned their attention to bread. According to the developers, I Am Bread is “the beautiful story of one slice of bread's epic and emotional journey as it embarks upon a quest to become toasted.” Apparently this will involve traversing the perils of a kitchen, lounge, bedroom and bathroom as a moving slice of bread.

Narcissu 10th Anniversary Anthology Project By Sekai Project

Visual novel fans should already be very familiar with the Narcissu titles, a series that wasn’t afraid to explore themes about terminal illness and the relationship between the living and dying. If not, Narcissu 1st & 2nd is available as a free download from Steam and comes highly recommended. However, Sekai Project have decided to team up with Stage-nana, the original creators, and do a full remake of the Narcissu anthology. Fans have been waiting years for the rest of the Narcissu series to be translated and, if the Kickstarter campaign is successful, this will finally happen.

The Beast Inside (Illusion Ray Studio)

The Beast Inside (Illusion Ray Studio)

From Resident Evil 2 to Pathologic 2, 2019 has been no stranger to horror games so far. We've seen plenty of good ones, a few that haven’t lived up to expectations and even a couple that took us by surprise. Then, PlayWay S.A. contacted us with a short beta version of the upcoming Illusion Ray Studio title, The Beast Inside. It is only one of the thirteen chapters from the full game, but what we experienced was already more than enough to convince us that The Beast Inside is going to be a stellar title.
