Film Noir Platformer “White Shadows” Announced For PC & Next-Gen
Headup has announced their collaboration with Mixtvision and Monokel to bring a new title, White Shadows, to PC and next-gen consoles. White Shadows is a film noir platformer where players will get to experience a distorted mirror of our own world.
The game is in development at Monokel, the Germany-based studio known for social and sociocritical projects such as The Congo Tribunal. Meanwhile, WA and many of the game’s production assets are handled by Mixtvision, the German publisher known for Far: Lone Sails and Minute of Islands.
The setting for White Shadows is a world where almost all living things have been wiped from the face of the earth by a plague that followed in the wake of a great war. Birds are blamed for this plague and the only sanctuary can be found inside the White City. To protect themselves from the plague people must wear a shining coat of fresh white color, but obedience is required to earn your ration of color. However, the protagonist of the game, Ravengirl, is not so sure about any of this.
Players will assist Ravengirl as she makes her escape and journeys through some of the deepest, most surreal parts of the city. It would seem that the developers drew some inspiration from George Orwell’s Animal Farm, so players can expect to experience themes that are not commonly tackled in games. The developers have described it as a game that deals with the world outside, but is accessible for everyone.
In terms of gameplay, White Shadows will feature escape sequences that alternate with puzzles and classic platformer elements. While the gameplay takes place in 2D, White Shadows promises a huge three-dimensional world with breathtaking scenes as well as weird, characters, devices, and vehicles.
White Shadows is set to release in the first half of 2021 and will be available for PC, PS5, as well as Xbox Series X. Check out the trailer below for a glimpse of what to expect and be sure to keep an eye on the Steam Page, Discord, and Headup’s Twitter account for more information.
