Good Games Aren’t Dead, They’re Just Taking a While

Good games are few and far between these days, especially in the AAA arena. Yet there are some great games to play right now, and VR gaming is set to get a whole lot better soon.

What to Play Right Now

Love it, or loathe it, the Star Wars: Jedi franchise from EA is compelling as a Star Wars story and offers great gameplay mechanics, even if it is a tad hard if you aren’t used to souls-like games. But wait for a price drop to reduce any apprehension you may have. Further to apprehension, Baldur’s Gate 3, more info at walkthrough.guide, is currently turning gamers’ frowns upside down all over the world and is reportedly so good it’s causing other devs to panic.

The Fall of 2023

Given the slew of over-promised and underwhelming games of this year, the fall of 2023 is a fitting header here. Atomic Heart, Forspoken, and OMG, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum are just a few. However, it relates to what’s coming over the next three months. You see, the year may just redeem itself with a few AA and AAA titles set for release soon. Some to look forward to include Cities: Skylines II, Alan Wake 2, and of course, the in-no-way-hyped-at-all, Starfield.

Good Games to Look Forward To

Fall 2023 is shaping up to be one of the best for years for hobbyist gamers. In the past, we had to endure Marvel’s Avengers and the catastrophic launch of Cyberpunk 2077. Well, at least Cyberpunk is looking to redeem itself with the upcoming Phantom Liberty expansion that goes beyond new content and revamps the game as a soft reboot ala No Man’s Sky. However, we also have the new Avatar game coming up and, finally, Hogwarts Legacy for Nintendo Switch.

Will Next Year be Better?

A few other honorable mentions before the end of 2023 include Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, CoD: Modern Warfare 3, and Alone in the Dark. All of these, and more, will nicely round off the year’s end after a mediocre eight months of just OK releases. The start of 2024, however, also looks to be shaky with new releases such as Star Wars Outlaws, which looks too good to be true, The Sims rip-off, Life by You, and the highly controversial Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

The Rise of PSVR 2 Gaming?

The PlayStation VR 2 was released to somewhat timid applause in February, as the price put people off/ But to be fair, a PC and a PC VR headset would cost four times as much. That being said, the game library is lacking, but slowly adding a mix of new IPs and ports from other VR consoles. And it looks like Sony will continue this trend with upcoming PSVR 2 titles such as Low-Fi, Firewall Ultra, and Vampire: The Masquerade – Justice. You decide if it’s worth it.

Summary

Some good games to play right now include Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Baldur’s Gate 3. You can probably look forward to Phantom Liberty and don’t sell your PSVR 2 headset just yet.
