Neverinth (CreAct Games)

It’s not often that we see indie developers take a stab at the “Soulsborne” series, but that is exactly what CreAct Games is attempting with Neverinth. The game, which is currently in Early Access on Steam, challenges players to explore the ever-changing halls of the Neverinth and uncover the history of the Valkyrie. The most recent update to the game added a brand new Valkyrie, the katana wielding Proud Aspirant, who is the third out of a promised five playable characters in Neverinth

PAYDAY™ The Heist: Wolfpack DLC

The Wolfpack DLC adds two brand new heists to the game along with a brand new class, the technician. The new heists offer a lot of fun, but are also challenging enough to keep veterans on their toes. The new class also comes with their own new weapons and gadgets, including a grenade launcher and sentry gun, which is pretty impressive. All in all, there’s no reason not to grab this DLC if you are a fan of the game, although the developers have generously included the option to invite friends to the new heists if you own the DLC and they don’t.

Gameplay: Two brand new heists, a brand new class and some new weaponry.

Graphics: Still the same as the base game.

Sound: Not much has changed compared to the base game

PAYDAY™ The Heist

Payday: The Heist is not a game for people who prefer playing on their own or don’t have the patience to put up with unfair odds. However, it does offer non-stop action, great level designs and plenty of variety as you go about your criminal activities. The game is obviously showing its age, but it still has plenty to offer if you have a few friends willing to enter a life of crime with you. Pulling off the heists against all odds is incredibly satisfying and the different skill trees along with the constant challenges keeps things fresh.

Gameplay: The game is not even remotely fair, but it is a lot of fun and quite addictive, provided you play with friends.

Graphics: The visuals definitely show their age, but still look good in places.

Sound: Decent audio, but you’ll mostly be listening to your team members over voice chat in any case

Action fans who enjoy a good laugh should definitely be adding Roguelike Hero by Carrya. Tec. to their wishlists. Much to our delight, the game is heavily inspired by the style of Stephen “The King of Comedy” Chow, which caught our attention immediately. ABZÛ

Abzu allows players to descend into the heart of the ocean without worrying about things like oxygen or predators. It is a tranquil experience with beautiful visuals that left us eager to see each new environment. Everything from the art to the soundtrack is superb, but the gameplay could be a bit too shallow for action fans. The entire experience is also over way too soon, but if you get hooked, you’ll love every second of it.

Gameplay: Abzu is mostly about swimming around and observing your surroundings.

Graphics: The art style for the game is beautiful, and each scene is filled with color and life.

Sound: The soundtrack and sound effects are a perfect match for the tranquil setting and gameplay

Everreach: Project Eden (Elder Games)

2019 has been a great year for games and in addition to the titles that has already been released there are still a lot of upcoming ones to be excited about. September in particular looks like it is going to be leaving gamers with no spare time for anything else. However, one game that definitely should not be overlooked this September is Everreach: Project Eden by Elder Games. For those unfamiliar with Elder Games, it is an independent game development team that was founded by Ede Tarsoly and they have been around since 2007. Ede also handled most of the projects, along with external freelancers, up until 2016. It was after this that things changed, thanks to Everreach, which is their most ambitious title to date. Thanks to the size and scope of the game, the core team at Elder Games grew to five people and over a dozen external freelancers were also brought in to bring this ambitious title to life

The Princess, the Stray Cat, and Matters of the Heart

The Princess, The Stray Cat, and Matters of the Heart is a charming and humorous visual novel with a large cast of interesting characters. It opens with the protagonist, Nora Handa, encountering a girl claiming to be a princess of the netherworld, and events spiral further out of control from there. After encountering this newcomer, Nora has to decide whether he is falling in love with her or if his heart beats for one of the three other girls in his life. Of course, the fact that he has been cursed to change into a cat whenever he is kissed also complicates matters further. Overall, this is a great visual novel, but there are some gaping holes where all the adult content has been removed.

Gameplay: Completing all four of the routes in the game is a lengthy process but very enjoyable.

Graphics: The artwork is really good, but it is a pity that the adult content had to be removed.

Sound: Full voice acting for the characters, along with a varied soundtrack

Pure

Pure is a very underrated game which is a pity as it actually has some solid gameplay and plenty of adrenaline fueled races. You can fly through it if you are not interested in multi-player or achievements, but overall it is a good game.

Gameplay: Fast and frantic with some insane tricks.

Graphics: Detailed environments with stunning vistas and plenty of effects.

Sound: The sound effects are ok, but the voices can become a tad annoying

Alan Wake Special Two: The Writer

While it doesn’t wrap things up neatly, “The Writer” offers us another chance to experience the twisted world of Alan Wake. As far as DLC goes, this one has enough content to make it worthwhile, but don’t expect too many answers.

Gameplay: A little less combat, but that’s not a bad thing.

Graphics: Same engine obviously, but the twisted locations are great.

Sound: Solid as ever
