When a developer lists X-Com, Jagged Alliance, Fallout, Baldur’s Gate, and Civilization as the influences for their game it’s hard not to sit up and take notice. These are all games that are permanent fixtures on any decent “greatest games of all time” list, so the developers certainly have their work cut out for them. Called Graywalkers: Purgatory, this 3rd person RPG uses strategic and turn-based tactical elements to immerse players in a supernatural post-apocalyptic world.

The game is set after an event called “The Rupture” that somehow merged heaven, hell and Earth into one place. As the leader of the “Graywalkers” players will have to explore this realm and unite the 36 “Hidden Ones” in order to reclaim the world for humanity. It is certainly a very intriguing backstory and leaves a lot of room for some imaginative locations and enemies.

Developed by Las Vegas and Manila based studio, Dreamlords, Graywalkers: Purgatory promises 3 modes of play, avatar customization, different races, more than 40 playable NPCs, strategic management, factions, special abilities and a whole lot more. Players will get to face off against cultists, gangers, demons, fallen angels, werewolves, zombies and all manner of other supernatural creatures. The game will also offer different paths/classes for party members, including soldiers, agents, arcanist, armsman, diviners, martialist and many others.

The pre-alpha demo available from the Kickstarter page offers a small glimpse of the combat in the game and features two different scenarios to try out. In “Demon Hellgate Assault” players get to take on a huge demon and its minions, while “Necromancer Cult Assault” is a showdown in a graveyard. While obviously still very early, it is already very clear from the demo that the game is going to be a lot of fun to play. The developers have promised that the full release will also have story based side quests in addition to procedurally generated territorial disputes.

The game is currently nearing its Kickstarter goal, but there are still a few days left to get in on the action and bag yourself some nice rewards as well. You can also download the pre-alpha demo from the Kickstarter page to check it out for yourself. Although it is too early to tell if the developers will be able to achieve all their goals for the game, it is certainly looking promising enough. If Dreamlords can accomplish what they are setting out to do with Graywalkers: Purgatory role playing fans are in for a treat.

The amount of English visual novels on the market has steadily been increasing, so it is becoming more difficult for new entries to stand out from the crowd. However, Walkerman immediately caught our attention thanks to its promise of hunting supernatural creatures. Starring Jorgen, a young man from the countryside, the game will follow his adventures as he embarks on his new career as a walkerman.

Narcissu 10th Anniversary Anthology Project By Sekai Project

Visual novel fans should already be very familiar with the Narcissu titles, a series that wasn’t afraid to explore themes about terminal illness and the relationship between the living and dying. If not, Narcissu 1st & 2nd is available as a free download from Steam and comes highly recommended. However, Sekai Project have decided to team up with Stage-nana, the original creators, and do a full remake of the Narcissu anthology. Fans have been waiting years for the rest of the Narcissu series to be translated and, if the Kickstarter campaign is successful, this will finally happen.

Nice, it reminds me a bit of Hellgate: London but hopefully it will be a lot better. Downloading the demo now myself to see.
