NieR: Replicant Synthwave Tribute Album Now Available

It only took a decade or so, but the remake of the previously Japanese Playstation 3 exclusive, Nier Replicant, is finally around the corner. While there’s still a bit of a wait left for the game fans can already get their hands on Transcience, a NieR synthwave tribute album by Sean Schafianski. This five-track EP celebrates the award-winning original soundtrack by MoNACA in a distinctly ’80s style. Sean has taken five key themes from the original soundtrack and then injected some funky synths, smooth saxophone solos, and wailing guitars.

Schafianski should already be very familiar to fans of NieR as this is not the first time that he has paid homage to the music of the series in new exciting styles. His previous work includes two jazz albums tributes to the original NieR and a selection of chamber music arrangements for both NieR and NieR: Automata. According to Schafianski he embraced the 1980s aesthetic with Transience and used it to reimagine the original tracks in new ways. Although he has released over fifteen albums of remastered and remixed videogame music this EP is his first foray into synthwave. However, when listening to Transience one would never guess that Schafianski has never tackled the genre before!

Transience: A NieR Synthwave Tribute is out now on digital stores and streaming platforms including Apple and Spotify. Check out the full tracklist below and follow Sean Schafianski on Twitter, SoundCloud, and YouTube. More information can also be found on his official website.
