Platformers are one of the most enduring genres out there and there is always room for one more if it is done well. Last Soul, an upcoming 2D pixel-art platformer by Wulum is already shaping up to be something special. While the planned release date is set for Spring 2022, there is a free prologue available on Steam featuring two levels. The first level serves as a tutorial where players are introduced to some of the skills available to the robotic protagonist, Bop. After that, players are thrown into a tense boss fight where they get to put these skills to the test.

Last Soul is set in a future where mankind has lost its will and it is up to Bop to save the day. The developers are promising four distinct regions in the full game, witch each consisting of a variety of levels. Players will also be able to evolve their character through three stages of progression and unlock new and more powerful weapons and abilities along the way. With powers such as bullet time, jet pack, and shields, Bop is not your typical run-of-the-mill platform hero either. However, players will have to really master these abilities if they hope to stand a chance against the deadly enemies and fearsome bosses in the game.

Our time with the prologue certainly confirmed the fact that Last Soul is an action-packed game. Even during the tutorial enemies show no hesitation when it comes to showering Bop with bullets and they don’t go down without a fight either. The visual style of the game also stands out with very detailed pixel-art, memorable character designs, and vivid colors. Check out our First Look Video for Last Soul to see the game in action or, better yet, head over to Steam and download the free prologue. Remember the good old days when you could just storm a dungeon and rescue the princess? Well those days are well and truly behind us as modern princesses demand a little more from their would-be rescuers. At least, that's the premise behind this intriguing looking 3D action platformer by AweKteaM. Tower Princess will give players the opportunity to step into the armor of one of the knights and knightesses who are brave enough to take on the procedural dungeons.

Rogue Invader by Squishy Games

PC titles that mimic the 16-bit, 8-bit and even 2-bit titles of yesteryear are nothing new, but encountering a 1-bit title in 2015 is still a bit unusual. Especially when it is an isometric, rogue-like sidescroller that doesn’t skimp on the action. We were a bit skeptical about the promise of high definition 1-bit graphics, but after playing the press demo of Rogue Invader there is no denying that this game has got plenty of style and charm.
