Procyon PC Review

Procyon PC Review

Procyon is a game that has more than a passing resemblance to the classic arcade titles from companies such as Irem and Toaplan. It won’t take long to complete the five levels on offer, but you’ll have fun doing so and the game is available at a bargain price. Procyon focuses on delivering a solid shooter instead of really shaking up the genre but it is polished and very enjoyable.

Gameplay: Nice, solid arcade shooter.

Graphics: Not the most detailed, but plenty of colors and explosions.

Sound: Great soundtrack and some pretty good sound effects

STAR WARS™ – The Force Unleashed™ Ultimate Sith Edition

STAR WARS™ – The Force Unleashed™ Ultimate Sith Edition

With so much potential and clearly a lot of work put into the audio and visuals, its hard not to be disappointed by the lackluster level designs and imprecise controls. This Ultimate Sith Edition includes all downloadable content from the console versions plus an extra level set on Hoth, but the rather large download size (30GB) and host of annoyances makes this one for the die-hard Star Wars fans only.

Gameplay: Ultimately could have been so much better. Still playable, but not living up to the standards of the Jedi Knight series.

Graphics: Excellent art style and some visually stunning locations.

Sound: Decent voice acting and stellar audio

Test Your Mettle Against Legions of Raging Zombies in Dead Corps 2

Test Your Mettle Against Legions of Raging Zombies in Dead Corps 2

As if there isn’t enough diseases with scary names and even scarier symptoms, the government has cooked up a new one, code-named H7. It is a form of bovine spongiform encephalopathy, which sounds terrifying enough without even knowing that it turns people into zombies. Not content with simple lab tests, the government started experimenting on people, which as any horror fan will know, caused the virus to spread like wildfire. The good news is that you are one of the very few people who are immune against the effects of H7. The bad news is that everyone else have turned into ferocious zombies and they all want to use your head as a chew-toy

DoDonPachi Resurrection

DoDonPachi Resurrection

Not everyone enjoys navigating a hail of bullets with pinpoint precision while retaliating with excessive firepower, but if bullet hell shooters are your thing then you can’t go wrong with DoDonPachi Resurrection. The story will probably be lost on most players and the game can be very daunting at first, but it packs a wealth of modes and options. The action is relentless and chasing highscores is undeniably addictive. This Steam version does suffer from a couple of minor issues, but overall it is a great example of the genre and one that all shooter fans will want to add to their collection.

Gameplay: The action is relentless, but very addictive.

Graphics: Good, but the playing area is rather small and mostly filled with bullets.

Sound: The soundtrack is fast paced and upbeat while the sound effects deserves to be cranked up high

Mutant Beasts Await You In BioBeasts For iOS and Android

For once it is not humanity messing around with nature, but evil robot scientists. The mechanical fiends have snatched innocent creatures from their habitats to experiment on. What the robots did not bargain on was that their mutation experiments would trigger rapid evolution in their captive creatures and pretty soon the tables are turned. In BioBeasts: Mutate & Destroy, an action packed free title for iOS and Android, you get to unleash the mutant beasts and help them escape the clutches of their robotic abductors

Wonder Boy Returns (CFK Co., Ltd.)

Wonder Boy Returns (CFK Co., Ltd.)

Not content with finally bringing Princess Maker 2 Refine to English speaking audiences, CFK, is also bringing a high definition remake of the original Wonder Boy to Steam. The first game in the series was released back in 1986 and made quite an impression in the arcades thanks to its fast paced side scrolling action. The success of the game also resulted in numerous ports and spin-off titles across various formats

Lichtspeer

Lichtspeer

If you are looking for a game that is easy to pick up and play, but challenging enough to keep you coming back for more then you’ll get a kick out of Lichtspeer. It only takes one level to learn everything you need to know to stay alive, but thanks to the overwhelming odds against you it never becomes boring. The difficulty ramps up very quickly, but because the game is so addictive you’ll be back after every rage quit.

Gameplay: Easy to pick up and play, but hard to master.

Graphics: The retro futuristic visual style is a nice match for the setting.

Sound: The soundtrack is great and you’ll encounter some hilarious speech samples too

SteamWorld Heist

SteamWorld Heist

SteamWorld Heist is set in the same universe as its predecessor, SteamWorld Dig, but opted for a completely different genre and play style. Despite the switch, the game retains the charming visual style and addictiveness that is becoming a hallmark of Image & Form titles. If you are a fan of turn-based strategy games you really owe it to yourself to add this one to your collection.

Gameplay: Despite being turn-based, the game feels fast and action packed.

Graphics: Detailed, vibrant and well animated.

Sound: Great sound effects and the soundtrack is brilliant

Ghost 1.0

Ghost 1.0

Play as a digital ghost with the ability to control androids in this great Metroidvania title from the maker of Unepic. The game challenges you to infiltrate the Nakamura Space Station and uncover its secrets, a quest that will take you through almost 300 rooms. Ghost 1.0 features tight controls, engaging writing, likeable characters and plenty of action, which makes it very easy to recommend to fans of the genre.

Gameplay: Quite challenging at times, but very addictive.

Graphics: Detailed visuals and some very nice design elements.

Sound: The soundtrack is great, but the voice-acting steals the show

Shmups Skill Test

Shmups Skill Test

Shmups Skill Test is a collection of mini-games that are designed to test how good you are at playing arcade and bullet hell shooters. While this means it doesn’t have as much depth as other titles in the genre, it still provides a nice diversion and a way to hone your skills. Since it is based on a rather old arcade game the visuals are far from cutting edge, but the gameplay and low price tag make up for this. If you think you have mastered the genre, then try out this game to see for sure.

Gameplay: Lots of fun in short bursts, but obviously doesn’t have as much depth as full-fledged shooters.

Graphics: The visuals are definitely showing their age.

Sound: Not your typical shooter soundtrack
