Borderlands: Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot

Borderlands: Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot

After I praised The Zombie Island Of Dr. Ned as a good example of how to do DLC properly Gearbox goes and does the exact opposite with Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot. The arena fighting idea is nice but by removing all the XP and loot gathering we are left with a empty shell of the addictive Borderlands experience. This could have been so much better.

Gameplay: A tedious grind with very little to show for all your efforts.

Graphics: Nice, but nothing we haven’t seen before in the main game.

Sound: Pretty good, but Moxxi can become a bit repetitive with her quips

Borderlands: The Zombie Island Of Dr. Ned

Borderlands: The Zombie Island Of Dr. Ned

The Zombie Island Of Dr. Ned is a good example of how to do DLC properly. With some nice new areas, a new visual palette and an interesting storyline this should definitely not be missed. Zombies have been done to death before (pun intended) but Borderlansd proves that there is still some life left in the undead.

Gameplay: A tighter story and lots of zombie killing action.

Graphics: A completely new look and feel for the game.

Sound: Good but would have liked to hear some new battle cries

F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin

F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin

As a first person shooter this game is great but as a follow up to the excellent F.E.A.R its hard not to be slightly disappointed. The emphasis is on all out action with only a few spooky bits thrown in here and there. As long as you don’t expect the same experience as the original game you will have fun, but there are definitely less thrills and chills.

Gameplay: The scares have been replaced by action which is somewhat disappointing.

Graphics: Nice but maybe a bit too cartoony for its own good at times.

Sound: Very good but could have benefited from a bit more oomph from the weapons

Borderlands

Borderlands

Borderlands is a unique first person shooter with some nifty RPG elements making it very action packed and addictive to play. For the best results the game should be played in co-op as the story is rather thin and the game has a very MMO feel to it. The unique art style and abundance of weapons makes this game a great time waster.

Gameplay: Thin on story but lots of action and loot hunting.

Graphics: The visual style sets it apart from other first person shooters.

Sound: A good soundtrack and decent voice acting

BioShock Infinite

BioShock Infinite

While it might not have a multi-player mode and doesn’t stray as far from the familiar Bioshock experience as you might think, Infinite is an outstanding game with a lot to offer. With intense combat, an eye opening storyline and unwillingness to back away from sensitive topics, Infinite is a game that should not be missed.

Gameplay: Familiar yet fresh, Infinite is a worthy successor to the Bioshock franchise.

Graphics: Looks great even on moderate hardware.

Sound: Excellent voice acting and a great musical score

Bioshock 2

Bioshock 2

A great sequel that makes a lot of improvements over the original but at times feels too much like an expansion pack rather than a full fledged title. It is still a blast to play and has some great insights into the world of Rapture but don’t expect the plot to be as mind blowing as the first. Things really pick up towards the end so stick with it.

Gameplay: All the tweaks and improvements you could ask for.

Graphics: Very nice but its clear to see that the PC version is being held back by the games console roots.

Sound: Atmospheric and moody

Verdun Players Can Now Take Part In A Christmas Truce

Verdun Players Can Now Take Part In A Christmas Truce

Throwing snowballs at other players or playing football matches are not things that are associated with realistic First World War games, but that is exactly what is happening in Verdun. The developers of this first person shooter have added a brand new dedicated winter map to the game where players can engage in these activities and more. Even more amazing is the fact that it is historically accurate as French, German and British troops actually held a truce during Christmas!

Aliens vs. Predator™

Aliens vs. Predator™

An atmospheric human campaign, frantic wall and ceiling crawling Alien campaign and stealthy Predator campaign all combine for an entertaining package. I would have loved to see more variety in the locations but the game was fun to play despite its flaws. Definitely worth it if you spot it at a bargain price.

Gameplay: Standard FPS fare as the marine but the Alien and Predator campaigns offer something new.

Graphics: Nice graphics and great animations.

Sound: Lance Henrikson does a great job but the rest of the voice overs are so so

Duke Nukem Forever: The Doctor Who Cloned Me

Duke Nukem Forever: The Doctor Who Cloned Me

While The Doctor Who Cloned me is a entertaining experience it is not going to change the minds of those who have turned their back on the main game. With a four to five hour campaign feature plenty of shooting and new locations it is worth the price but don’t expect any visual improvements or drastic changes.

Gameplay: More focused than the main game but still some annoyances.

Graphics: No real improvements over the main campaign.

Sound: Some more quips from Duke but the music is less memorable

Eledees

Eledees

The storyline is rather childish but the gameplay is quite addictive in this non-violent shooter. Raising havoc is a lot of fun and chasing down all the little critters can be tricky but overall this game shouldn’t pose too much of a challenge. The controls work rather well bar a few instances and it is a good showcase for the Wii hardware.

Gameplay: Perfectly suited to the Wii controls.

Graphics: Not exactly cutting edge but does the job.

Sound: Good but not great
