After only a couple of days on Kickstarter Slain! By Wolf Brew Games is already tearing its way towards success. It’s no surprise though as the game is looking pretty impressive and definitely looks like it will deliver on its promise of stunning visuals with gore galore. According to the developers, Slain! Is their homage to all of the gory hack and slash games released back in the 80’s and 90’s and the influences of classics like Shadow of the Beast, Altered Beast and Ghost ‘n Goblins are clear to see.

The game stars Bathoryn, a hero that must travel the land and eradicate the evil that is infesting a series of towers. Numerous enemies are hell bent on thwarting his quest and Bathoryn will also have to deal with traps and puzzles. Comprised of seven different areas, your first goal in each is to complete a horizontal section in order to reach a tower. These sections will test your combat skills to the limit, but once you reach the tower it is time to ascend (or descent) it. The towers focus more on platforming and puzzle solving while also placing a range of deadly traps in your path. After successfully navigating the tower it is time for a showdown with the overlord.

Slain! is not for the faint of heart as the developers are promising that the combat and platforming will be brutal. You’ll get some assistance in the form of save points, but mastering the sword techniques and mana system is going to be essential for survival. Bathoryn has five different sword attacks at his disposal as well as mana abilities such as bombs and fireballs.

Visually Slain! is looking all kinds of awesome with highly detailed and beautifully animated pixel art. The game also features some amazing use of light to hammer home its gothic atmosphere. It is being created by some industry veterans and has already been in development for eighteen months. This means the estimated release date of May 2015 is all but certain. The game is already 65% funded at the time of writing, so check out its Kickstarter page to lend some support. Slain! also has a Greenlight campaign running, so don’t forget to vote “YES!” if you want see the game on Steam.

When a developer lists X-Com, Jagged Alliance, Fallout, Baldur’s Gate, and Civilization as the influences for their game it’s hard not to sit up and take notice. These are all games that are permanent fixtures on any decent “greatest games of all time” list, so the developers certainly have their work cut out for them. Called Graywalkers: Purgatory, this 3rd person RPG uses strategic and turn-based tactical elements to immerse players in a supernatural post-apocalyptic world.

Otome fans will already be familiar with the big names like Otomate, Voltage and Reject. Newcomers Weeev might be a small group, but their goal is to offer experiences comparable to what players expect from these big developers. That is why Weeev turned to Kickstarter for their debut title, Purrfectly Ever After. In case the name didn’t give it away already, it is a feline themed visual novel starring cute characters and a romantic story.

This looks incredible. Im sure it would have sailed to success even at twice the funding goal.
