Fallout 3

The shift towards a more action oriented first person view might not sit well with purists, but Fallout 3 is still a very entertaining and highly engrossing role playing game. Exploring the wasteland and all its perils is a memorable experience and there is enough to do in this game to keep you busy for ages. The game wasn’t without its bugs when it first launched, but has stabilized a lot since then and there are also hundreds of mods available to enhance the experience.

Gameplay: More action and a little less role playing than the previous Fallout titles, but still good.

Graphics: While not exactly cutting edge the visuals still allow for an immersive experience.

Sound: The game features a great selection of classic tunes

Kirby: Power Paintbrush

With so many DS titles feeling like rehashed Gameboy Advance games it is great to see this ones like this finally start to emerge. It uses the same formula first seen in Yoshi Touch N Go but evolves it into a full fledged game. It comes highly recommended to all platform fans.

Gameplay: Full stylus control throughout makes for an interesting challenge.

Graphics: Very nice 2D visuals.

Sound: Cheerful and uplifting

Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition

With a ton of characters, excellent story mode and loads of extras, Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition is a must have not only for fans of Mortal Kombat, but anyone who loves the genre. The gameplay is solid and the fights taking place on a 2D plane works very well. The Komplete Edition might not be worth it if you already own the original version but for newcomers it is highly recommended.

Gameplay: Harkens back to the classic era of Mortal Kombat games.

Graphics: The visuals are very impressive and breath new life into familiar arenas.

Sound: Excellent

OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast

Very playable and quite addictive in short bursts but ultimately becomes very repetitive and probably a title that’s more suited to portable systems. Still there’s fun to be had especially if you remember the original Outrun.

Gameplay: Fun… in short bursts.

Graphics: Not exactly cutting edge for this day and age but still good.

Sound: Nice if you remember the original games

Pac ‘N Roll

Pac N Roll is not a game that is going to set your world on fire and astound you with its innovative new concepts but it is fun while it lasts. The controls work well and the levels become quite challenging later on. Repetition does start to creep in after a while so you might want to try before you buy.

Gameplay: An interesting take on the genre.

Graphics: Bold and cheerful.

Sound: Apart from the horrible voice samples not too bad

Even if you are a fan of the movie I would be hard pressed to recommend this game to anyone. This would have felt boring and dated on the Gameboy Advance and it certainly has no place on the Nintendo DS. There are way better offerings than this out there.

Gameplay: This is a lazy port of a cheap movie cash-in.

Graphics: Barely better than on the Gameboy Advance.

Sound: Nothing to write home about

Xena fans will probably enjoy seeing all their favourite characters in action but this just feels to simplistic for my taste. The characters all look a little dodgy too.

Gameplay: There is fun to be had, especially in the multiplayer mode.

Graphics: Some of the characters look a little strange.

Sound: Passable

Wipeout Pure shows what a launch game is capable of if enough time and effort is put into it. It is a perfect showcase of the new hardware and a joy to play. Addictive from start to finish with plenty of content to back up the visuals this game is essential to any collection.

Gameplay: Starts out nice and slow but by the time things speed up you will already be hooked.

Graphics: The most impressive visuals in a handheld title to date.

Sound: If you like the genre you’ll love the soundtrack

As far as launch titles go Kameo is quite impressive, but if you were expecting something radically new and different be prepared for disappointment. There are some good ideas packed in the game, but the sloppy controls and repetitive gameplay soon show through the pretty visuals. It’s not a complete disaster, but falls short of what it could have been.

Gameplay: The controls let it down a lot, but if you are a platform fan there’s fun to be had.

Graphics: Very good, but the quality is a bit uneven.

Sound: Epic soundtrack, but the usual mediocre voice acting

While not very polished or original Demolition Racer is definitely fun and the great two-player mode should keep you occupied for quite a while.

Gameplay: Pure, mindless entertainment.

Graphics: Let down by some nasty pop-up and clipping issues.
