Carto

Carto

Carto is a unique puzzle adventure with charming visuals and very creative challenges. The protagonist has cartography powers that allow her to manipulate her surroundings using different map pieces and this forms the basis for most of the puzzles. Apart from a few puzzles that can be a little obscure, this is a relaxing adventure that will keep most players entertained for the seven or so hours it lasts.

Gameplay: Moving around map pieces to change your surroundings allows for some creative puzzles.

Graphics: The hand-drawn visuals and charming animations make for a lovely looking game.

Sound: No voice acting, but the soundtrack is great

Eastshade

Eastshade

Eastshade is a peaceful first-person adventure game where players get to explore an island as an artist who specializes in realistic paintings. The game is without risk and danger, so the focus is very much on exploration and interacting with the unique cast of anthropomorphic animals. Some players might find it a little too slow-paced and boring, but despite some technical shortcomings, it is still a great game.

Gameplay: Very peaceful and relaxing.

Graphics: Quite beautiful at times.

Sound: The soundtrack is mellow and the voice acting decent for the most part

Burnout™ Paradise Remastered

Burnout™ Paradise Remastered

Burnout Paradise Remastered is an updated version of the original release from 2008 featuring better visuals as well as all the previously released DLC. The game looks better than ever and is still a lot of fun to play, but also retains a lot of the archaic interface elements. It also lacks features such as way-points and a fast travel system that fans of modern open-world games take for granted. Nevertheless, it is still a lot of fun to play and there are hours upon hours of content waiting in Paradise City.

Gameplay: Fun and addictive, but some things have not aged so well in the ten years since the original release.

Graphics: Not a massive visual overhaul compared to the original, but the game does look pretty good.

Sound: The soundtrack is still great and the sound effects decent

Jiangshi x Daoshi

Jiangshi x Daoshi

Jiangshi x Daoshi is a very unique kinetic novel featuring some of the most animated and over the top scenes we’ve seen in the genre. The quirky style of the game and Chinese folklore elements can be a little overwhelming at first, but it’s hard not to get sucked in by the characters and story. The first two episodes are completely free, so there’s no reason to miss out on the game and the third episode is worth the price of admission as well if you are hooked.

Gameplay: A kinetic novel, so there are no choices, but the story is very unique.

Graphics: The over the top animated style of the game is something to behold.

Sound: Decent voice acting as well as a very varied soundtrack

The Wizard and The Slug

The Wizard and The Slug

The Wizard and The Slug is a whimsical 2D platformer with an enormously entertaining story and characters. The humor is by far the highlight of this game, but it also contains some challenging platform action. The inclusion of all kinds of strange encounters, goofy mini-games, and laugh-out-loud jokes doesn’t hurt it either. Even players who are not very good at platform games will be able to experience this one due to the inclusion of an “assist” menu, so don’t miss out.

Gameplay: The game features decent platforming action, but it’s the small touches that make the game stand out.

Graphics: The visuals are very basic but also very charming.

Sound: The music and sound effects are decent and very fitting

DYSMANTLE ( 10tons Ltd)

DYSMANTLE ( 10tons Ltd)

Dysmantle by 10tons Ltd opens with the protagonist emerging from his shelter to a post-apocalyptic island that is overrun with all kinds of hostile creatures. Clearly, something very bad happened, and you might just be the only surviving human left on the island. Fortunately, it appears that there is a way to get off the island, but it is going to take a lot of exploration and preparation to do so successfully

Leisure Suit Larry – Wet Dreams Dry Twice

Leisure Suit Larry – Wet Dreams Dry Twice

Larry is back after his adventures in Wet Dreams Don’t Dry and this time he has to fend for himself on the wild and untamed islands of Kalau’a. His primary goal is to track down the girl he fell madly in love with during the previous game, but as always with Larry, things are never straightforward. From cryptocurrency pirates and lesbian cannibals to secret caves and mysterious artifacts, this is one of Larry’s biggest adventures yet. Some of the humor is a little forced and the game has a few obscure puzzles, but overall it’s a challenging and enjoyable point and click adventure.

Gameplay: Plenty of puzzles to sink your teeth into.

Graphics: Larry gets to visit a lot of diverse locations in this adventure.

Sound: Decent voice acting and the music isn’t bad either

Home Sheep Home: Farmageddon Party Edition

Home Sheep Home: Farmageddon Party Edition

Home Sheep Home: Farmageddon Party Edition is a casual puzzle adventure based on the popular Aardman Animations license. While it lacks the claymation style visuals of the source material the game still looks good and, more importantly, it is a lot of fun to play. There’s nothing here that is too taxing, so even younger players can enjoy the adventures of the three mischievous sheep. We would have liked to play the multiplayer aspects of the game online, but unfortunately, these are limited to local players only.

Gameplay: Not very difficult, but quite creative and fun to play.

Graphics: Looks like a children’s storybook that has come to life.

Sound: Good, but not great

Palindrome Syndrome: Escape Room

Palindrome Syndrome: Escape Room

Palindrome Syndrome: Escape Room is a slow-paced puzzle experience featuring a character with amnesia waking up aboard a spaceship. Players must help them solve the logic puzzles that stand between them and the truth of what happened. While not a very long game the puzzles are enjoyable and very satisfying to solve.

Gameplay: The puzzles can be challenging, but are never illogical.

Graphics: Not a lot of visual options, but the graphics look decent.

Sound: Voice acting is a little stiff, but the soundtrack is good

TurnOn

TurnOn

TurnOn is a unique platform game in which players must guide a tiny alien spark along electric wires to help restore power to a city experiencing a blackout. The game is very casual and relaxing for the most part, but some unexpected runner-style sections can cause frustration. It is also a very short game, but the healthy dose of achievements helps with the replay value.

Gameplay: The game is casual and relaxing until the runner sections make an appearance.

Graphics: TurnOn features 3D visuals that are viewed from a primarily 2D perspective.

Sound: The jazzy soundtrack is a highlight
