NeXus – One Core

NeXus – One Core

It is tough and unforgiving, but NeXus: One Core is also addictive and very rewarding. The solo mode has enough randomized elements and difficulty settings to keep you busy for a while, but it is the local co-op mode where this game truly shines. If you are a fan of the genre you should definitely check out the game, but for players who regularly play local co-op titles this is a must.
Gameplay: Very challenging, but improving your best times through practice is very rewarding.

Graphics: The game looks good, but visual distractions are kept to a minimum.

Gameplay: Some great tunes that really complement the gameplay nicely.

Violet: Space Mission

Violet: Space Mission

While Violet: Space Mission features functional visuals and audio, it is the gameplay that impresses the most. The game packs quite a challenge and navigating through the debris strewn areas using only a propulsion pack is no easy feat. The high difficulty might turn off more casual players, but anyone who enjoys a good challenge will appreciate what this game has to offer.

Gameplay: The challenge ramps up very quickly, but the game remains addictive throughout its ten levels.

Graphics: The visuals are good, but nothing spectacular.

Sound: Fitting, but thankfully unobtrusive

Pukka Golf

Pukka Golf

Forget about leisurely strolling around a course, carefully selecting an appropriate club, checking the wind speed and then making a shot. Pukka Golf provides you with a golf ball and a hole to sink it in as quickly as possible while throwing all kinds of obstacles in your way. It is a straightforward concept and done very well, making it both fun to play as well as very addictive. With tons of levels, each with multiple goals, expect Pukka Golf to keep you busy for quite a while.

Gameplay: Very easy to pick up and play, but challenging enough to keep you coming back for more.

Graphics: Simple and straightforward without any clutter, but could benefit from some more variety.

Sound: The audio is unobtrusive, but not very memorable

Deadstone

Deadstone

There aren’t that many titles on PC in the top down shooter genre and even fewer that offers as much as Deadstone. It’s got a meaty campaign mode that can be enjoyed in a serious or light-hearted fashion as well as a very addictive survival mode. Throw in the co-op mode, which is unfortunately local only, and you have the recipe for a great game.

Graphics: The visual style of the game is a little dated and lacking in variety, but overall it’s quite polished.

Sound: Nice voice acting during the cut-scenes and the music fits the atmosphere of the game well.

Gameplay: Plenty of content and an addictive experience throughout despite the repetition

Zotrix

Zotrix

Anyone that has spent their childhood pumping quarters into an arcade machine during the 80’s and early 90’s will be happy to hear about Zotrix. This game is based on the shooters from that era and features the usual one space pilot versus an entire alien armada formula that was so popular at the time. The roots of the game might be retro, but this doesn’t mean that it feels like it is stuck in the past

Toast Time

Toast Time

It would be easy to dismiss Toast Time based on its simple visuals, but doing so would rob you of quite an addictive and challenging experience. Using a toaster to battle interdimensional enemies intent on destroying your alarm clock is just as goofy as it sounds, but this doesn’t stop the game from being a lot of fun.

Gameplay: Toast Time captures the “just one more go” spirit of the simple arcade games from yesteryear.

Graphics: The visuals are very simple but quite charming, especially with all the ways to customize TERRY.

Sound: The audio is great, and each level has its own catchy tune

UpperCup Football

UpperCup Football

It is hard to believe that a game where you only use one button can be this much fun, but UpperCup Football proves that it is possible. The beautiful visuals will draw you in and the addictive gameplay will keep you coming back for more. There is just so much variety in the teams and matches that you will want to keep playing just to see who you are up against next. UpperCup Football is definitely one of my favourite Android titles and one that will remain on my tablet for quite some time.

Gameplay: Very entertaining and incredibly addictive.

Graphics: Beautiful pixel art with tons of variety.

Sound: Catchy tunes and great sound effects

Dogfighter

Dogfighter

Its always good to go into a game with no expectations and be pleasantly surprised. Dogfighter is a highly addictive experience that will have you chasing rankings and achievements long into the night. A great game from a great indie developer.

Gameplay: All the fun and maddness of a first person shooter but with added dimensions.
Graphics: Stylish & detailed.
Sound: Good sound effects but the limited music gets a bit repetitive

Wasteland Angel

Wasteland Angel

Top-down shooters such as Wasteland Angel offer a nice quick burst of arcade action but tend to suffer from being repetitive. The idea behind this game is nice enough, but the small arenas that force you to stick close to the towns you have to protect all feel too similar. The lack of enemy variety doesn’t do this game any favors, either.

Gameplay: Mindless fun but soon becomes repetitive.

Graphics: The overhead visuals are not too bad, but they don’t hold up well in first person.

Sound: The voice acting is decent enough, but the rest is nothing special

Zuma’s Revenge

Zuma’s Revenge

If you enjoyed the original game then you will love this sequel. It doesn’t change the addictive formula in any drastic way but it does offer a polished and compelling experience. Expect to sink more hours into this one than you may think.

Gameplay: Every bit as addictive and engrossing as the original.
Graphics: While not spectacular the visuals are very polished.
Sound: Similar to the original
