Die Young

Die Young

Die Young is an impressive open-world title in which you play a young woman named Daphne trying to survive the dangers of a remote Mediterranean island. It is extremely satisfying to explore the vast island and slowly piece together the story. Seeing everything that Die Young has to offer should keep players busy for ages, and apart from a few technical issues, the game comes highly recommended.

Gameplay: Exploring the vast island is a lot of fun, and there are many things to see and do.

Graphics: Die Young is a great-looking game once you max out all the visual options.

Sound: The game features a decent soundtrack and sound effects, but some of the voice acting could be better

Adam – Lost Memories (Adam Dubi)

Adam – Lost Memories (Adam Dubi)

As terrifying as the horror genre can be the sad reality is that the ghouls, ghost and other fantasy creatures that typically inhabit it pales in comparison to the horror that some people have to endure in real-life. It is even more heartbreaking when you realize that it is often the most vulnerable who are preyed on the most. Adam: Lost Memories is an early access title that is being created by just one person, Adam Dubi. Adam began working on the game after his psychologist suggested that he uses some form of art to work through the trauma that he experienced during his childhood. For some people, this would mean painting or poetry, but instead, Adam went ahead and created an extremely ambitious horror game

Children of Morta

Children of Morta

From the beautiful hand-painted pixel art to the moving family-oriented storyline, Children of Morta is a game unlike any other. The game itself is extremely addictive and following the adventures of the Bergson family kept us glued to our screens. If you are looking for an action RPG that is not just a lot of fun to play, but also has a lot of heart, then Children of Morta should be at the top of your list.

Gameplay: Challenging, addictive and just plain fun to play.

Graphics: Beautiful hand pained pixel art with smooth animations.

Sound: The music, sound effects, and narrator all sound superb

Overdungeon 超载地牢

Overdungeon 超载地牢

Overdungeon is a nice combination of rogue-like elements, card games, and the tower defense genre. With three playable characters and more than 100 cards as well as powerful relics, it is a game that easily sucks you in with its addictive gameplay. The translation quality is a little rough and the game could definitely benefit from a bit more polish, but for sheer, chaotic fun it is hard to beat.

Gameplay: The random elements can result in some really over the top battles.

Graphics: Decent, but not spectacular.

Sound: Not bad

Crawlco Block Knockers

Crawlco Block Knockers

Crawlco Block Knockers is an addictive action/puzzle title that draws inspiration from a rather unusual source. The whole thing looks and plays like a sleazy nineties arcade game, but it’s so much more than just a flimsy excuse to ogle a couple of lewd images. Not only is the game challenging, but it totally nails the audio and visual style of the era while still offering enough options to customize everything to your liking. If you are a fan of the genre, then CBK is more than worth the asking price.

Gameplay: Challenging, addictive and great fun.

Graphics: The visuals perfectly capture the weird and sleazy arcade era of the nineties.

Sound: Decent sound effects and a great soundtrack by OSC

Morphies Law: Remorphed

Morphies Law: Remorphed

Morphies Law: Remorphed is a colorful and entertaining online shooter that brings some genuinely unique elements to the genre. The game originally suffered a rocky launch on the Nintendo Switch, but this Remorphed version addressed all of the issues while also adding plenty of new content. The fact that it features crossplay between Steam and Switch users is also quite neat. If you are tired of all the drab, serious online shooters, then give Morphies Law: Remorphed a shot and experience the fun of running around as an impossibly proportioned, colorful killing machine.

Graphics: Colorful visuals, unique levels and a wealth of customization options for your Morphie.

Sound: Pretty decent.

Gameplay: A very unique take on the genre that also manages to be a lot of fun to play

Dreamscaper by Afterburner Studios

Dreamscaper by Afterburner Studios

Everyone who has ever dealt with depression will know what a battle it can be to overcome. This is the situation in which Cassidy, the protagonist of Dreamscaper, finds herself, except in her case it is somewhat more literal. Cassidy actually has the ability to dive into her subconscious and take on the surreal nightmares that she wrestles with. It’s a pretty unique premise for a game and one of the reasons why we suggest checking out the Kickstarter for Dreamcaper by Afterburner Studios. Dreamscaper is an upcoming ARPG Roguelite blend that promises to combine elements from brawlers as well as top-down shooters, and dungeon crawlers

Ten Questions With… JianYi Tsai (CreAct Games)

A while back we checked out Neverinth, an ambitious roguelike that draws inspiration from the “Soulsborne” series. The game is currently in early access, but it is already obvious that CreAct Games, the indie team working on the game, has big plans. We were eager to find out more about Neverinth and thankfully CreAct Games were gracious enough to provide us with some answers
