Take My Money: 3 Retro Games All Nerds Love!

Take My Money: 3 Retro Games All Nerds Love!

Gaming has always been a popular pastime for the nerd community. Dare I say it, we popularized gaming! All those years spent on retro gaming machines while other kids played different games, constantly being called nerds. Who’d have thought that in 30 or 40 years’ time, video games would be seen as cool?!

Anyway, there are loads of new video games out all the time. However, it’s good to look back at some of the most iconic retro games out there. Here are three examples that you can still play today:

Pac-Man (Copyright BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment)

Pacman

You can’t really beat Pacman, can you? As far as iconic games go, this one takes the biscuit. It’s become a huge part of nerd culture, with so many Pacman iterations and spin-offs over the years. Everyone remembers the classic noises from the original arcade game, and you can bring this back to life. Find classic arcade games for sale online, and you can literally bring the old arcade game into your home. It requires a fair bit of investing, but if you’re keen to add something to your nerdy den, then this is perfect. Regain those childhood arcade memories with this retro game.

Pokémon (Copyright Nintendo / Game Freak)

Pokemon

Pokemon will go down in history as one of the most popular games of all time. It counts as a retro game because it first came out on the very old Gameboys back in the nineties. Along with the likes of Mario and Sonic, this game pretty much revolutionized the gaming industry. It was the first time we really saw how powerful handheld consoles can be. I remember spending hours a day grinding on Pokemon Red on my porch with some homemade lemonade by my side. It felt like I was in my own bubble, and I’d look at everything around me and wish that it was secretly a Pokemon! Obviously, there are loads of modern Pokemon games out, along with remakes of the classic versions. But, if you have a Nintendo DS, you can use the virtual console to download and play the old games in their original forms! Did someone say nostalgia? Of course, if you do some searching, I’m sure you can find an old Gameboy to gain the proper nostalgic experience.

Tetris (Copyright Elorg/Nintendo)

Tetris

Lastly, we have Tetris. A timeless classic that doesn’t need to change much and still remains entertaining. It’s the original puzzle game, with very simple mechanics that mean anyone can pick it up. I recently played a more modern version of the game, and it wasn’t anywhere near as good. Classic Tetris can be played on pretty much any gaming platform you can find. It’s well worth getting out now and then when you have some time to spare and want a challenge!

These are my three picks for retro games that all nerds love. Do you have any other suggestions? I touched upon both Mario and Sonic earlier, and they definitely have a fair few classic games! Feel free to leave a comment with any of your favorite retro games.
