New Gameplay Trailer For The Dark Eye: Book of Heroes Highlights Character Creation

The Dark Eye: Book of Heroes is an upcoming action-RPG by Wild River Games and they have just released a brand new gameplay trailer. Fans of The Dark Eye tabletop pen and paper role-playing system on which the game is based will know how important character creation is, so it’s great to see that the trailer highlights this feature

NieR:Automata

NieR:Automata

Nier: Automata allows you to fight for the glory of mankind as an android locked into a war with the alien created machine lifeforms that have driven humanity to the moon. It’s a stylish 3rd person action game with a semi-open world and fluid combat, but the story is really what makes the game so memorable. It’s full of surprises and plenty of heart-wrenching moments that make it easier to look past some of the shaky technical aspects of the game. It’s also undoubtedly a very quirky game, so it might not appeal to everyone, but if you are a fan of the genre then it is a must.

Gameplay: Action-packed, entertaining, engrossing, and over the top.

Graphics: Great designs for everything, from the environments to the characters and enemies.

Sound: The voice acting is really good and the soundtrack is amongst the best in the business

The Outer Worlds

The Outer Worlds

The Outer Worlds combines some of the best elements from Fallout: New Vegas with a retro-futuristic pulp sci-fi setting. It features plenty of dark humor as well as great dialog and a lot of freedom when it comes to getting in and out of sticky situations. The interface could have been a bit better, but the game still had us hooked for the 30+ hours it took us to complete the main quest and most of the side missions. If you enjoy single-player role-playing games, then you are going to love this one.

Gameplay: Very addictive and while not as vast in scope as other open-world games, you are still given plenty of freedom.

Graphics: The game world is very colorful and there’s plenty of beautiful locations.

Sound: Great voice acting and a good soundtrack

Superhero League of Hoboken

Superhero League of Hoboken

Superhero League of Hoboken is a really bizarre and off the wall game, but that’s what made it so entertaining and refreshing back when it was first released. It features challenging battles and plenty of neat puzzles, which still makes it worth playing in this day and age. Some elements of the game have aged better than others, but if you missed out the first time round then you’ll still find plenty of entertainment here. Just keep in mind that the game is a couple of decades old at this point.

Gameplay: Very fun to play and quite unique for its time.

Graphics: Obviously very dated now, but still has plenty of neat elements.

Sound: Once again not bad for its time

The Longing

The Longing

The Longing is a unique title that combines elements of adventure and idle games. Playing as the lonely Shade, it is your task to simply wait 400 days in the dark caverns deep below the surface before waking up your king. Of course, nothing is preventing you from exploring your surroundings or even trying to find an escape, but 400 days counting down in almost real-time you’ll find that nothing in this game can be rushed.

Gameplay: You’ll find that patience really is a virtue when playing The Longing.

Graphics: The protagonist is certainly a memorable character and the visual style is very charming.

Sound: The soundtrack is great and the sound effects enhance the lonely atmosphere of the game

Everreach: Project Eden

Everreach: Project Eden

Everreach: Project Eden is a sci-fi themed third-person shooter with some RPG elements thrown into the mix as well. It’s not a bad looking game but struggles with cumbersome controls, stiff animations, and combat that lacks excitement. The story is interesting once you get caught up in it but prepare for some frustration and lack of polish along the way.

Gameplay: Rather short and could have benefited from some more polish.

Graphics: The visuals look good, but the animations are rather stiff.

Sound: Nice soundtrack, but the sound effects are rather lacking

Dusk Diver 酉閃町

Dusk Diver 酉閃町

Take control of an ordinary girl who gains extraordinary powers and the ability to step through rifts in reality to battle vicious “Chaos Beasts.” Dusk Diver features the vibrant real-world setting of Ximending as well as it’s shadowy fictional counterpart Youshanding for players to explore. It’s a “Musou” style beat ’em up, so expect plenty of punching and kicking, but there’s also some downtime between missions for exploring Ximending, eating food and performing side quests. Despite some flaws, Dusk Diver is a very compelling game and definitely something for fans of the genre.

Gameplay: Combat can become repetitive, but overall the game is fun to play.

Graphics: The vibrant anime art style and unique setting for the game are both great.

Sound: Decent music and full Japanese as well as Mandarin voice acting

Cat Quest II

Cat Quest II

Cat Quest 2 takes all the elements that made the original game such a hit and polishes everything to a fine sheen. It’s not the most challenging 2D action RPG on the market, but it has a lot of charm and is still incredibly addictive. The main story is brief, but there are many side quests and optional dungeons that can keep players busy for ages. Although Cat Quest 2 is not perfect, it’s a lot of fun and will appeal to fans of the first game, as well as newcomers looking for an accessible title.

Gameplay: It’s not very challenging, but it’s a lot of fun.

Graphics: The 2D visuals are beautiful and stylish.

Sound: The game features a decent soundtrack and sound effects

Children of Morta

Children of Morta

From the beautiful hand-painted pixel art to the moving family-oriented storyline, Children of Morta is a game unlike any other. The game itself is extremely addictive and following the adventures of the Bergson family kept us glued to our screens. If you are looking for an action RPG that is not just a lot of fun to play, but also has a lot of heart, then Children of Morta should be at the top of your list.

Gameplay: Challenging, addictive and just plain fun to play.

Graphics: Beautiful hand pained pixel art with smooth animations.

Sound: The music, sound effects, and narrator all sound superb

Overdungeon 超载地牢

Overdungeon 超载地牢

Overdungeon is a nice combination of rogue-like elements, card games, and the tower defense genre. With three playable characters and more than 100 cards as well as powerful relics, it is a game that easily sucks you in with its addictive gameplay. The translation quality is a little rough and the game could definitely benefit from a bit more polish, but for sheer, chaotic fun it is hard to beat.

Gameplay: The random elements can result in some really over the top battles.

Graphics: Decent, but not spectacular.

Sound: Not bad
